It is a BRP built engine and should be reliable. I run a regular 200 DI and it does very well. Run XD50 and decarb annually or XD100 and not worry about carbon. Index the plugs. make sure the motor is coming up to operating temperature and you should be good to go.

I have that exact motor on a 195 Pro XL Stratos. It is a beast of a motor. Tons of low end torque and will spin to 6K. The motor is stingy on fuel and oil. I run XD-100 Evinrude oil in mine but XD-50 would suffice. With the old style spark plugs I had to replace them yearly. I just installed the new iridium plugs in mine and hope they last 100 hours. Routine maintenance consists of annual lower unit oil and fuel filter change. I change the water pump every two years. You need to run a 1000 MCCA starting battery with that motor. I love mine and would not change it for anything except a new ETEC HO...

Check your cylinder head temps, they should be in the 140-160 range, if not, pull the cover off the blow off valve and glue the seal in, also check your thermo gaskets, get the temps up and your plugs will last longer.

thanks guys.I had one Evinrude dealer tell me I shouldn't run XD 100 because it was too
thin and it was made for e-tec engines only. I thought I had read where other guys were running the XD 100.

You can run XD-100 in any motor. 2 cycle of course.

Championman what do you think about using XD100 in mercury 250ProXS? The mercury oil seems to be building carbon as you can see it in the prop.

    Re: (Dr. No)

Are you running Merc Premium Plus or Opti oil? Or something else. XD-100 is a fully synthetic so I can see no issues.

XD-100 is not recommended for any engines other than Evinrude.
