Phoenix 719 vs. Ranger Z119 or Basscat

I have not had the opportunity to see a Phoenix boat in person. I have run Basscats for years and really like them. I am looking at Ranger and possibly Phoenix boats due to dealer availability in my area. I am looking for honest opinions from owners who are familiar with theses brands. Thanks for your comments.

I work alot of boat shows and get to see alot of the boats side by side. Phoenix boats are right there with any brand of boat. There fit and finish is far above any boat company out there. They have a tramendouse amount of storage and standered opinons to the gills. I live near and on the great lakes the will put the ride and construction up against any boat. And the best thing about phoenix is they dont use junuky trailers!

It will be hard to beat the Bird but only you can decide that. Ride Drive and Fish from all three. Then get the one YOU like. Buy any of the three and you will not go wrong.

You might check with "BOBBER NE", a Phoenix owner in Maine on here. He has a 721 and I believe he would be happy to share his thoughts with you

Phoenix and Basscat are privately owned companies some very important to consider IMHO

I am sure all three would do the job but, I wouldn't trade my 719 for anything!

Re: Phoenix 719 vs. Ranger Z119 or Basscat (mgstroud1960)

When I was ready to purchase a new boat I was very hot on a BCB Puma. I previously looked at a Pantera IV and liked it. At the last minute I got exposed to a Phoenix 721 and never looked back. I bought a 721/SHO combination.

Bass Cats are excellent quality boats and you will not go wrong with buying one. It is a matter of "flavor"...

The Phoenix (in my opinion) was a better, softer ride in rough water. The Phoenix felt substantially wider than the Bass Cat and more stable. The back deck area was bigger on the Phoenix which was desirable to me. I did not like the way forward position on the TM pedal on the BCB. (some folks really like this but not me ...like I said...different flavor!). The storage, livewells, seating behind the wheel etc felt better to me (6:4 225#).

So as you can see these issues are personal in nature. Get the rig that suits you and your needs.

    Good Luck!

I have read this one page for over 2 years and finally had the opportunity to pull the trigger last week. Needless to say its going to be an extremly long winter. I would be more than happy to take you for a spin in it this spring when I get her back to New England.

A Z19 and a Z119 are two totally different boats, the 119 will ride like crap! I would but the phoenix or the bc

I was in the market for a 19' boat last year and Phoenix was the winner for me. There really was not a close competitor in the 19' range for me other than the 719.

I believe there is a fella in Ellsworth that has a 619 Phoenix. The 619 is the same boat as the 719 just different power. If you are in the area south of Augusta this spring, give me me a call, would be happy to take you out and have you drive.

teamcobra2, why would the Z119 ride like crap? Its the same hull as the Z519 and I think its a nice ride personally. I cant compare to a phoenix because I havent road in one, but the Z519 seems to be quite nice. my 2 cents.

I think he was comparing it to the Z19 not Z519.

    Re: (idbefishing)

I can personally vouch that the z119 does not ride like crap. My fishing partner of many years just recently bought a z119 with the 225 Pro XS and it is amazing on the ride. You cant go wrong with any of the three, almost all companies build a quality boat now days. It is mostly personal preference. And we are comparing ride of his 119 to my champ 200.

I will say though the ride out of the phoenix is soft. And I totally agree on the privately owned companies, you cant go wrong.

    Re: (bassfinder1)

I looked at all 3 and after looking at the Bass Cat Pantera II and Phoenix 619/719 I quickly removed the ranger from my list. I ended up going with the Bass Cat due to front deck size and fully fiber-glassed consoles. I really liked the Phoenix but I dont like how the front deck is designed on these models and wish they would make the dash and controls more solid. The front deck is the same size as the 618 and the extra foot is placed on the back deck. I felt that with how the trolling motor is positioned on the Bass Cat I had a lot more room on the front deck for 2 guys.

Everyone likes a boat for different reasons and my recommendation is to buy either the BassCat or Phoenix as I believe the family owned companies are the only way to go. You will be happy with either one.

    Re: (waknbass)

The Z119 is not the same hull as the Z519....The Z119 uses the same hull as the old Z20 and Z21 which are alot different that the 521. The Z20 and 21 ride a lot flatter and have a lot less bow lift than the 520 and Z521
