    Baystar Hydraulic on 150 Intruder?

I have a 95 Stratos 285 ProXL with a 150 Intruder. I steers like a Mack truck and would like to replace with a hydraulic system. Has anyone used the Teleflex Baystar system on this motor? Will it fi t& Do you like it?

Don't! Use the SeaStar system, that 150 HP rating should only be considered for a CC boat not a High Performance boat.

Thanks for the input Guys.Being at the top end of the rating was a concern for me thus the question was asked. The seastar almost doubles in price so I'll just have to fight this mack a littile longer to save up some funds.

Worse part is going to be cutting that 3" hole in the console.

When you pull your old helm station out, the kit comes with a template. Tape the template to the console (make some copies) and get a 3" hole saw. Put a piece of wood behind the console for the hole saw to grip into. Have a few beers and then pull the trigger on the drill.

You guys all have it wrong you are supposed to drink the beer after your are done cutting the hole.

If you messed up the cut you can drink your sorrows away and if your cut was successful you can drink because it is over.

Excellent explanation of cutting the hole in the dash Champ.

You forgot the quick let-off of the trigger just before your Milwaukee 1/2" Magnum Hole Shooter stops dead-still in the wood and twists you around before you let go and watch the sparks fly as it tears the electrical cord into multiple pieces.

Good luck to the gentlemen with the hydraulic steering install.
It'll be worth every dime and then some each time you use your boat.

Make sure you get it bled properly so you cannot shake the engine right or left at all with the motor steering dead ahead.

It'll take a little gettin used to because the feel is different and you don't have to play with the slack any more.

Re: Baystar Hydraulic on 150 Intruder? (Rmart30)

Okay guys I have been procrastinating long enough. I got the hoses run and the cylinder mounted. Will hopefully make a hole tonight. When purging the stystem should the cylinder be mounted with the arms connected to motor or should I purge it with the arms off? The instructions are not clear on this

Re: Baystar Hydraulic on 150 Intruder? (RayS777)

Have it hooked up and ready to go. Tip, take masking tape and put 2 layers on the area to be cut, it will keep your gel coat from splintering. Make sure you cross one hose from the helm to the cylinder. I helps to have 2 people when purging the air from the system. You will use both bottles to fill the system but you will have one left from the excess of bleeding. The instructions say to help in filling the system put a pin hole in the bottom of the bottle, Don't. Use this bottle for the bleeding bottle and that will give you the spare. Have fun!

Tornados and rain are putting a damper on this project. There must be a reason for this

Glad you bought the Seastar Pro.

The Baystar is rated up to 150hp.
Original Teleflex said "up to but NOT including 150", they have changed it to include 150 but that is pushing that system especially if you are running high performance.

    I take it like this.
If you are walking on a tight rope that holds 200 pounds and you weigh 199 pounds, are you safe enough?
Or would you prefer a tight rope that holds 400 pounds?

    I thought so........
