Pheonix 721 vs basscat cougar ftd?

Hey guys just looking for some info why the pheonix might be a better boat over buying a basscat cougar ftd?

Not trying to start any rumbles or arguements. Just trying to help get more of an idea for my purchase. I have looked at the pheonix721, Cat cougar ftd. Overall comparison can y'all help me maybe see somethings I might be missing. Maybe also what makes the pheonix boat a better purchase? And why?

I have been over them both but just can't make a decision. It a tuff choice.

One thing I did see is the cat is glassed together with top cap and bottom hull, I see the 721 is screwed like many others is this a big deal!

This will be my first high performance bassboat so some things like that may not be that big of a deal...anyhow let me here what y'all got to say!

    Thanks fellas!

Yeah, I'm having a hard time trying to decide...
I have weeded my way through and slimming my decision to these 2 boats. And possibly the skeeter fx series too, the skeeter is always in the back of my mind.

Find a dealer for each brand and then go ride and decide. Both are good rigs an will not sling mud at any other brand. Just know this is my second 721 and last boat.
Each brand has its little things people like or dislike only you can make that choice.
Good Luck with either one, but Phoenix is not selling their boats as fast as they can build them for nothing.

I am gonna put this out there and I am not trying to be rude. You've been putting these this boat vs that boat post out there for awhile now. Are you expecting some unbiased opinions here? Forget about it! People buy their boat based on other peoples input, yes but that is a small part of the equation. At some point you have to make your own mind up.
Go walk around one, go take your top three for a spin.
I am pretty confident which one will rise to the top but, don't take our word for it, prove it to yourself.
    Tightlines,

Here's a link to an article I did right after my first tournament in a Phoenix. I came out of a Cougar FTD, so it should answer most of your other questions that I didn't answer in our im conversation.

Ride for yourself (I'm right around the corner and we can go almost any evening), that'll make your mind up pretty fast.

Re: Pheonix 721 vs basscat cougar ftd? (mswings)

Sorry for the length, but you asked for it...I have had 5 Bass Cats beginning with a 2005 Puma and ending with a 2009 Puma FTD. The Puma FTD is the same hull as the Cougar FTD and the difference is in the storage layout. That said, I am in a Phoenix 721 now.

My take is this...they are both great boats and I would be happy to own either. In fact, it is safe to say that I will own one of the two brands from here on...period.

I love the craftmanship on both boats (great lines, fiberglass work, stainless hardware, etc). I like that Cat doesn't use plastic, opting to finish the fiberglass in their dashes, etc. I love the Cat trailers and think they are hands down the best in the business. They are definitely innovators in their features and progressive improvements. So is Phoenix.

However, while I like many of the Bass Cat features, I have enjoyed my 721 more than any boat I have owned (and that's been about everything). Overall, it does everything well. It has the softest ride of anything I've owned (Z521, FX20, 20XS, Puma FTD). It handles incredibly at low speed. The storage layout and fishing features are awesome. I truly enjoy fishing out of this boat. I consider the way the boat comes off plane, how easy it is to move around the boat, livewell operation, deck space, trolling motor manners, etc. To me, this one has been the best overall. Not to say I don't love the Cats, because I do.

There are lots of other things that could me mentioned, but I really just focus on the usability items. In the end, you should try to get a ride and couple hours of fishing from both. They are very different animals. I think once you do that, you will know which one is a better fit. Good luck...Ben

BOTh boats are absolutely fantastic! Probably the only two brands I'd ever consider for hard core fishing. Talk to Junior, he sells both. Could probably even set yo uup with a test drive.

Then you can make up your own mind.

Only 2 I'd run today. BCB makes a heck of a boat.

Re: Pheonix 721 vs basscat cougar ftd? (mswings)

I was ready to buy a BCB and at the last minute heard about the Phoenix. I figured I would give it a look see so it would confirm my decision on the Cat.

It didn't work out that way! I did a complete 180 and bought the Phoenix!

The quality of the BCB cannot be understated as they are made very well. However, the Phoenix is also of great quality and had a configuration and features that were more likable to me.

All issues in the above posts are true. I felt the Phoenix was better in:
    Ride and control.
    Rough water "softness"
Location of tm pedal and up front room.
Front deck seemed wider and more roomy.
Seating is further forward which I like with more deck in the rear.
Aluminum Gas tanks!...NO SMELL...many other rigs I saw had smell of fuel due to the plastic fuel tanks.
    Removable passenger console.
Center seat option is very usable when you have a third person.
    Storage configuration and finished boxes.
Control panel is conventional switches instead of electronics which I prefer.
Trailer is excellent (get c frame, dual brakes and shocks...excellent),
    Easily removable wind screens.
    Great Boat Cover included!
    LED lighting throughout

    Good Luck!

    Re: (mswings)

I went through both boats again and like the new looks of the bc cougar. It is stunning to me, that said all the features and the things Phoenix offers fit better. My wife has a bad heart and is weak so she cannot bass fish but can crappie fish. Side rod box next to passing.r will hold our crappie rods. The spin tray in box will hold my crappie lures. Bass rods in regular locker and same with all other gear. Plus I can remove the console when bass fishing. We also will just use it as a pleasure boat in summer for my wife to just float next to the boat. The only thing that I need which can be done is get a Basscat style ladder installed like on the new cougar. I have owned a p4 and a p3 and my friend has a puma. The ride is better in the Phoenix as far as softer. Now just got to get my Phoenix coming!
