    ... so now I'm a SHO guy.

    As luck would have it, I got a call today. The content in a nutshell was that Phoenix didn't have my ProXS, and they were not going to begin construction on my boat without one confirmed inbound. As an alternative to waiting with no end in sight, Jeff H. offered to hang a SHO on it for me at an additional cost. Having gotten this news 8 weeks and 5 days after I placed the order, I was obviously less than enthused about the whole thing. At least Phoenix had the presence of mind to order up what motors they could when the trouble began in Japan.

    So after a few hours of back-n-forth between me, Phoenix, and Berkely Outdoors, the money portion worked itself out and im going to have a 225 SHO on my 719. Ill admit im pretty nervous about the idea but I am very thankful that Phoenix had a back up plan and that Clinton at Berkely Outdoors took great care of me through the crisis.

    We are moving forward.

    Besides me getting on some bedding fish today, that is the best news I have heard in awhile! The fish were put back on the beds!

    I hope so. Im nervous. I keep reading posts on fuel flooding the oil system from blowby and on motors letting go. Im trying to convince myself that these issues are the exception and not the rule. I've never been much of a gambler but in this situation, I felt like I had no choice. Im for a good ending.

    you should have gotten a 225 E-tec HO with a lightening 2 gearcase, apparantly they can hold up to the 225 HO but not my 250 HO.

    Its not gas getting in the oil on the SHO's it's water, do some research some more on the boards or read the whole thread. Its water due to the motors not getting up to operating temps and that has sense been updated with a different thermostat.
    If you are that worried go with a Honda or stay with the Merc. if you believe all the BS about the SHO's you are going to be in big trouble.
    That I am aware of an can confirm I know of only one SHO that has blown. Oh never mind

    There is no way for water to get into the crankcase. It is gas leaking by the piston rings from running too cold. Yamaha is working on putting hotter thermostats in to help the issue. My partners 250 SHO has 10hrs. and has made a little oil but his Yamaha rep told him to run it hard to help seat the rings.

    Microsalmo, I believe you will love this decision in the long run. I have been riding in a SHO for the past three weeks and it is an incredible engine. I just sold my rig that was powered by Merc. and my next one will definitely have a SHO on it and I'm a die hard Merc guy but the game has changed. Good luck and enjoy.

    Thanks fellas. This really is a great phamily.

    I know motors. I've rebuilt my fair share. I've read all the info on the SHO and there is an issue with blowby and lots of fuel adding significant volume to the oil. My guess is that the metalurgy is now so good that the rings are having a hard time seating. Ill follow the manual, keep an eye on things, and make sure to get it it nice and before shutdown.

    ... that's funny about changing my sig. Will get that fixed.

    We have over 25 in service and havnet had any trouble with them making oil steve. I do feel that proper prep and break in are essential though

    I have had my 250 SHO since last April. I had the oil issue and it resolved after the TSB's were performed. I now have over 55 hours and not one single problem. I really love all this engine offers and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again today.
