going west on 72 in Athens,very nice looking dark gray and black and maybe silver.my question is why would it need what looked like a whale tail on that big merc 250.it just didnt look right when i saw it.stuck way out behind the prop.

if it stuck way out, it was probably a trolling plate, it will go to a vertical position and drastically reduce idle speed. If it was a whale tail or hydrofoil, it would have been more out to the sides as well as behind the cavitation plate instead of way out back like you described. I can tell you first hand, these boats don't need any help to plane quick or hold it at super slow speeds. He might have been a striper guy.

lol,must have been cause it looked to be like some type of tail.if looking at it from behind it looked like a foil but was to wide and long.curved down on both sides.i thought trolling plate as well but it didnt look like it would go down or up.jigging for cats.![]()

It MIGHT have been a Bryan's plate. Which help holeshot but are mostly great and used for low speed planning.
