    Steering cables pt 2

So I knew I was having issues with my steering cables, so today, since its nice, figured Id tear into them. I knew I had duel cables, what I didnt realize was that its two single cables that go from the helm to the motor instead of one double cable set up.

Took the cables off the helm as I knew they were next to impossible to move. What do you think I found.

Now can I use just the single cable instead of both. I would assume I can, just gonna be alot harder steering until I can get it/them replaced.

safety issues can come into play with single cable steering on the v6 motors,,,,,especially when your already having issues,,,,bite the bullet, on hydraulic set up,and i guarantee you,you will be glad you did,,,,,,,

Re: Steering cables pt 2 (185er)

I went ahead and checked the other cable, that too is pretty shot. I can get the two cabkes for about 200 to 250 and have found the Baystar steering setup for about 500.

i think the sea star would be way over kill for your motor. get the Baystar and i promise you it will be the best investment you make on your boat for the money. I had baystar on my 98 150 and it truly was like power steering , very easy and smooth. when i bought my 196 and installed the sea star i was kinda disappointed, not near as smooth and much harder to turn.
