    Stalling 225 HO Johnson

    Hello Everyone,
I need some help with a 2000 225HO Johnson. This is a carb engine. It runs great most of the time, but some time it will stall when I hit the throttle to came out of the hole. It acts like it's not getting any fuel. It will start back and idle but stall again if put in gear and accelerate. It only does this every now and then. Then it does this I have to pump up the fuel line bubble ( which will be soft) and it takes off and runs well. It seems to be worse after a long idle period or after the engine has been off for a little while. What should I do first? Thanks for any help.

Hit the choke but if it doesn't cut it order a new VRO/OMS You will be fine. Keep your receipt and that will cover your warranty. 5007420 will make you happy.

Thanks for the info Championman. I have tried the choke but it didn't help. Is that number (5007420) BRP's part number, I looked on there web site and could not find it. I found a number for a fuel pump. Thanks again.

Old part number is 438400 description is Fuel pump the 5007420 is the new number. But that is it the Fuel pump better known as the VRO/OMS.

Re: Stalling 225 HO Johnson (BulletPilot)

Hi I got a 175 Fast Strike thats having similar problems. Model # is J175GLEDB; serial # is 04061097. Thought the motor was a 96 model but last 2 #'s of serial # are 97. Do these #'s represent the year of the motor. Could not decarboning every year be causing this problem. Cant remember if I decarboned last year. Whats the safest way to do this if I havent. Any help appreciated.

Re: Stalling 225 HO Johnson (BulletPilot)

Sounds like the same problem I had on my 99 225 HO carb. It ended up being an interuptor switch, I guess from what the marina told me motor only runs on 3 cylinders in nuetral and when you put it in gear this switch works with power pack to engage the other cylinders, so to save on the lower end unit. I don't know if I explained it correct maybe the motor heads here could explain futher. But I do know my motor was doing the exact same thing you desribe and $60 for a switch and I installed it myself and she was back up to being herself again.

Re: Stalling 225 HO Johnson (BulletPilot)

What temperature is each cylinder head at after idlling a few minutes?

How many turns open is each idle adj. screw on the carbs?

Who set up the sync and link adjustments?

Does the timer base move freely with the throttle lever or is it sticky and drag "behind" it?

What is your wot rpm with your current prop?

Re: Stalling 225 HO Johnson (SEAHORSE)

Hi Seahorse, Thanks for the reply. I can't answer all the question you ask, I have no idea what the temp of the heads are, the idle adj. screws and the sync and link are all at the factory setting never been adjusted. WOT rpms are 5900.Timer base seems to be free. When it runs it runs great, it just takes spells where it seem to run out of gas. I also learned yesterday that when it does this I can rev it to 3000 rpms a couple of times in neutral and it clears up, and it seems to be worse when the fuel tank has more in it. I have checked the tank vent and it is open. Thanks Bulletpilot
PS. I read in another post about the Recirc valves causing this problem. What are these, what do they do, and where are they?

You could order a shop manual, or take it to someone who knew what they were doing.

Bullet you have mentioned having to pump the bulb up, that it goes soft even when slow idling. Have you replaced the fuel pump up bulb? Yours wouldn't be the first to go soft.........G
