There is nothing hard about it, people are just butthurt that others saw fit to pass a law to minimize cost of maintaining the ramps. It makes sense since there are literally a zillion state ramps there, to pump them all out and build them the way some are suggesting would be ridiculously expensive. Given the choice between more ramps or higher cost to maintain fewer ramps, guess which Id choose?
If you launch your boat enough, it's not hard to figure out how far to back the trailer in so you can glide most of the way on the trailer. GF usually does the winching and bought a new Fulton 2 speed 3200lb winch for the trailer!!![]()

Here on the Ohio River we encourage power loading to keep our ramps clean. Floods deposit a lot of silt that has to be removed... Dan
I launched at Selfridge today...There are 12 slips there 6 in and 6 out...
If the ramp isn't busy you can ignore the color coding but on a busy day splitting the ramps up into launch and load really speeds things up..
OK, My turn. I have yet to see it mention on this thread about ---lets say the older generation -- climbing over the front of a bass boat to step down on tongue to winch the boat the rest of the way on the trailer. How many on here have done so and fell, got wet, twisted or slipped and got wet, or sprained or even broke something while doing so? Especially those that launch by themselves. Hard enough as that is now, lets add a little breeze/wind to this while loading the boat. I have had this same discussion on another thread, and I was the A hole because of the power loading issue. And yes, I have slipped & fallen before and sore back and hip & leg is no fun. Even if you get the boat up the the stop, you still have to bend, neal down or lay down to reach down to hook the eye up or go ahead and climb over to do the same. Ok, before this goes much farther, I would think the new steps coming out for trailers would help out a lot. I do not have them as of yet, but working on getting some for my trailer. Rant over.![]()
Exactly. If we had that rule here I would tell my dad to just get the ticket and I'll pay it. My dad is 68, retired, and loves to fish. He has to go by himself most of the time. I'm not having him climb out of the boat and try to balance himself on the tongue while he try's to get the winch hooked up and then pull it up. Hell probably be all he could do to winch it up with his strength now days. For guys like him it's builds the Ramps right the first time or screw it I'll just pay the fine. Lol
Bullpucky--if he's alone he still has to get out of the boat, its exactly the same whether hes getting out to winch up the boat or gtting out just to get out.
i dont usually walk on the trailer when i get out of the boat, so im not sure how its the same

geez the laws they have in some places! Never see that become law down here in da swamps.
I don't think you have to worry about until the next ice age.
Our natural lakes are mostly rocky so power loading doesn't really affect it and it's legal here. There is one ramp that does form a hump from power loading, and when the water is low its tough to get to the ramp to load without bottoming out on it. There is no way to extend the ramp since the water depth stays at 1-2' for 200 yards.
I'm sure it's annoying not being able to power load, but its a lot more annoying not being able to use a ramp while you wait a month for the state to fix the damaged ramp. One of our ramps silts in from waves and state refuses to dredge it more than once a year. So for 5 months a 4 lane ramp becomes a 2 lane ramp since one side is too shallow to use and a complete custer after noon on a weekend.
