    1988 Johnson Gt. 150

When I am running at about 3/4 to full throttle the motor surges you can't see it on the speedo or the tech but you can feel it I am thinking Its a fuel pump any help? Is there a better board on this site to post this? thanks

Sure you could ask the guys on the Yamaha or Merc boards but they probably wouldn't know the answer. When it happens push the choke in if it clears up you have a fuel issue if not you have an electrical issue.

John, other than Seahorse or Rusty, Championman IS the person to talk to on older motors like yours. and calling him a smart A@@ is not going to get you an answer from any of the gurus on here. If you look at the top of the evinrude boards you will see the first name ( Championman) he started this forum and people from other boards and places on the net come to him for answers.. so if you think he is a smartA@@ head over to scream and fly and ask your question there and see how they react to you. have a good one 10 days is not a long time on here but as in a new school it is best to maybe ask a question , then shut up and listen to the remarks.

John, I had the same problem with a 1989 Evinrude 150xp and I ended up replacing one pack and the stator. I'm not saying that could be your problem, it could be a fuel issue instead.......

Re: 1988 Johnson Gt. 150 (jbigiron)

Yep and giving it back at you. That is the presribed procedure if the motor tries to stall or fall at close to max rpm then hit the choke, if it picks up then you have a fuel problem this is no joke. If the motor stumbles and fades and dies when you do this then you do indeed have an electrical problem on your motor. Sorry if I whizzed you off.

jbig...you could also get someone to pump the buld as you are running to see if its a fuel problem...if it clears up there you go. Check your vent to your gas tank also...make sure its open can clean. Check all your fuel line and filter. Many times a fuel line is the cause of fuel psi probs and is normally overlooked. Good luck
