    Summer holeshot SUX

I love my Gambler but in the summer with 2 people and a full tourney load the holeshot SUX. I love the performance in cool weather or with just me in the boat, but I fish a few tourneys and it is kinda embarasing to ask your partner to go to the front deck to get the boat on plane. I have a 1994 Intimidator 19'3" with a stock 200 Merc EFI. Tried many props, 25 Tempest plus 24 Trophy, 26 chopper, 26 Hoss T-1, 25 trophy, 27 Trophy, and many others. The 27 trophy is the best winter prop and the 25 Tempest plus with extra PVS holes is the best summer prop, but no matter what I do with the PVS plugs this boat is a slug out of the hole. I have added a plate below the 6" Gambler jackplate. Have checked the motor inside and out. Good comp, good leakdown specs, and it runs fine. I know that poor loaded holeshot is a trait of the G-boats, but if I could improve mine a little it would be nice. Has anyone tried a "dole-fin, whale-tail". I hate the looks of those things, but I will try anything once.

    does the bryans foil help?

I had 2 other passengers in the boat with me the other day and I wasn't sure if I would get on plane

I really wish I had those trim tabs on mine thats for sure.

Glad Gambler started making them with tabs and the new sterling I heard gets on plane even better

Does the Brian's foil really work? Has anyone used one of these? Thanks, 3-Liter

They help especially with a hyd. jack. You can experiment with it and fine tune your holeshot. You will prolly have to experiment with pvs plugs again. Also I have found that the engine needs to be ran 2in below and up. Below 2in it interfers with the water and will slow you down a little on top end. But when the water is rough and you want to go slow. All you have to do is run the jack down and trim down. I can run about 20 mph with the foil with out falling back into the water.

Best I remember bryan sells them for a lil over $100 bucks with all the mounting hardware. Bryan is an outstanding fella to deal with.

Run one on mine also. Love it. And the slow planing speed you get with it is awesome. Can run 18mph alone and 20-21 mph loaded with a partner

You could also consider getting a 4-blade Bravo or Hydromotive Quad IVX Large barrel prop and your hole shot problems will go away.

That could be your problem also..
Is it bogging on take off like it can't release the exhaust and water fast enough or just spinning up and getting nose high?
You may want to try a 25TXP also if you can get your hands on one.I'd be glad to send you a foil but try other things with your setup before spending money you don't have to.I wouldn't want you to spend the extra money if its just something that you can change on your setup that would help..

I agree with both of you but its not like he will be wasting his money if he did get the foil. He could still benifit from it.

Re: Summer holeshot SUX (Matt Mc)

Sounds like it may help him, i run the allison version but my holeshot is the same with or without/that being very good. Ihave not installed it on the 250 xb yet but it does help my low speeds and when the 250 settles into the water it will blowup behind it and cover the cowl, hoping it will stop that. Did not happen with the promax with foil.

the foil will help some, but if you send the tempest to mark croxton, and have it worked for the holeshot...you wont need a foil....

When you have this bad hole shot, are the rpm's comming up with the prop slipping or is the motor just bogging down?

    Re: Summer holeshot SUX (CRIMSONGAMBLER)

My best holeshot on mine was with a 2:1 ratio gearcase and a Hydro Quad in a 28P.. I could plane easily with 3 people in the boat while pulling a tube behind.. I went back to the 1.87 case and a 26P and NEVER got the Great holeshot back I was accustomed to no matter what I did with pvs holes... My opinion the 2.5L motors need to have the 2:1 case to give the pow torque motor some leverage..

If your motor doesn't have o-ring heads you could get thinner head gaskets and boost your compression a little and give you move punch,,,,, cheap $60-$70

    Re: Summer holeshot SUX (3-Liter)

Anyone in the midwest have a Croxion worked prop for me to try before I buy? I can make my rpms either rev too high by removing pvs plugs or bog the motor by installing more. This only happens in the summer with a full load. any other time the holeshot is fair. I know poor holeshot is normal on these boats, but if I could improve mine a little it would be great.

Why do all you suggest the brian's foil? I have seen many types of fins. "Whale-tail", 'dole-fins', and others seem popular, why do you not run these on a G-boat?

    Re: Summer holeshot SUX (3-Liter)

If i could find the pic's of my 183 back in 93 i could show you why real easy, they will rip the fins off. The bryans mounts under the fins and does not interfere with the water coming off the prop.

and because the other foils are fugly as hell. Surely someone won't want to put something ugly on there gambler, even if it is way in the back
