on the kill switch there is a wire coming from the ignition to the switch and then goes into the harness I would guess to the engine some where. and one wire going to ground.
my question is should the wire(not the ground) coming to the switch from the ignition a hot wire and if so is it when key is on or constant and where does the other wire end up on the engine

Yep the black/yellow wire connects to the "M" terminal on the switch that ties the KS to the harness the Black/yellow wire from the harness connects to the "M" terminal also. On the other side of the switch connects to ground or the other "m" connection on the switch. Looking at the back side of the switch: you will have B with red/purple at about 4 o'clock at 3 o'clock (or above it) is an M terminal this is for ground. Above that terminal is the "A" terminal that has purple wires on it and is about 1 o'clock spot. Terminal "C" is at about 11 o'clock and has white/purple wire on it, next at 9 o'clock is the S terminal with yellow/red, this is shift neutral safety switch lead, at about 8 o'clock is the second "M" terminal for the Black/yellow wires or kill switch. Hope this helps.
what about voltage. should there be voltage on on the me terminal. all the time or just when key is on. and where does it connect to motor

Nope no voltage on the M terminal that is a path to ground on the motor it goes into the power pack and kills the fire to all cylinders.
I think I'm confusing myself. It's an after market switch, only three wire. two wires come together on one side of switch these are green, one comes from key switch and the other goes into harness, I'm guessing to power pack. The other is the ground from the key. Should the green from key have voltage key on or key off.

Hopefully you got some instructions with your purchase. The purpose of the kill switch is to provide a path to ground via the M terminals. Best bet would to be to swing by an OMC/BRP dealer and get you an OEM switch.
switch worked fine for 6 months after I installed it. I know when you pull the disconnect switch that it sends a ground to the power pack. The engine is getting no fire. Just wasn't sure if voltage came from the key to the other side of switch for the purpose of energizing power pack I'm talking on third person info and memory. someone else owns it now. I was going to look at it tomorrow. just trying to get some info in order. wanted to make sure it was not the kill switch or possoble the ignition switch.
