    perfomance help/opionions....03 outlaw/225 EFI setup...

    hey guys...check this out...
been thinking ive had something in my motor that needed adjusting to help me get out of the whole....so far my hired Mercury Mechanic is baffled...
says he's done a few small adjustments, but nothing that he expects to make any difference for my problem...
    PROBLEM:
can't hardly get boat out of whole even with TRIM tabs DOWN...but, top end runs FREAKIN amazing....
    PROPS tried:
25 trophy- comes out of whole "Fair" (with trim tabs down), almost not at all with trim tabs up...6,000 PLUS rpms at 80mph (gps) with REV limiter beeping
27 trophy- (worked over and over again probally more like a 26) Barely comes out of whole with trim tabs down, and WONT with them up...5800 rpms at 78 mph WOT...
26 FURY- (brand new out of box) barely can get out of whole with trim tabs down, not at all with tabs up....82.3 GPS @ 5750 rpms....WOW....loving it from mid range ON>>>>>>

I still dont think its a prop issue as much as a set up issue....my dads got a 01 INTIMIDATOR 2000 with a 225 EFI, and no matter what prop, can ALWAYS use trim tabs if neccessary to get out of whole in a quick manner...

only difference in boats is length and i've got a 10" bobs hydraulic where his is a 4 inch bobs hydraulic...
any other ideas...or anyone else experienced similiar issues...
didn't have any problem on my 209 with same motor...

Check your tac those number dont figure right Those props wont go those speed at those rpm's unless you have changed your gears. With 0 slip at 5750 with a 26 pitch it is runnin 80 and that is not even possible. Check your tac or GPS. Are your gears the 1.75 which is stock for the 225? When I ran a 225 efi I got 75 @ 6100 rpm.

you might want to try a smaller jack plate and see what happens we have a 1991 intimidator and its 19'3 and i believe yours is 19'4 or something like that and our mechanic told us that we might want to try a smaller jp or even get rid of it all together and just mount the motor to the transom we didnt go that far but ours is a 8 inch manual plate with a 97 mercury 225 with a 26 trophy and our hole shot is okay. not sure if it would help or not but good luck

The additional setback with the 10" bobs will hamper your holeshot.

    A couple things to consider:
    1. Is your prop venting enough during holeshot, I like to see my motor spin up to over 4k during holeshot. You can open up some of the PVS holes if your rpms are low or you can try raising your motor a little until you find the sweet spot where you don't blow out.
    2. Do like I did and install a lightweight flywheel. This will help you with holeshot and midrange. I added 4 inches of setback and a power pole and my holeshot was crap, with the LW flywheel, I am back like I was before.
    3. Get you a Hydromotive Quad IV X (large barrel). Prop has very good holeshot and speed isn't bad either.

+1 on the lightened flywheel,,,,, got mine lightened thru simmons and with the 26 trophy plus on 1.62 gears and it rips to 4500 and comes out the hole like gang busters and doesn't quit pulling till 77-79, jack plate all the way up and no tabs,,,,,,,, the 28 bravo i just got has issues coming out the hole but it needs to be worked.. low water pick up also helps too, keeping the motor jacked to the sky on the hole shot,,,,, i also got a 10" set back(it grabs alot of water on the hole shot) but i don't think your set back is an issue

Yes that was with the 25 trophy. now I run a 27 on my Hammer to 6300 rpm 1.86 gears 80 even most the time light loaded. With the 25 trophy I was getting little more than 7% slip which is great. if it was runnin 80 it wouild be less than 0% slip.

so what's the setup on the PVS plugs then? You should be able to turn a 27p 3 or 4 blade no problem with a 225 on a 19' gambler.

    Re: (t_nipper_74)

thats my point exactly....once the nose ever drops i've been able to turn any prop i want up the the recommended 5600......
the one good point that my mechanic had was the few times that i was able to jump out of the whole, i had about 6-8 gallons of gas or less...maybe that made the weight difference enough....
either way, tomorrow, i'm trying the basketball trick
    AND
my dad's got a brand new in the box 27 Trophy that i'm gonna try with no plugs in...

bad plug wire resistance = low end power issues.

Holeshot plate under the jackplate to keep it from "Scooping" the water on takeoff. Best addition I ever did to the 10" Rapidjack I had..

yeh 6357 rpm to run 80 with 25 pitch @ 7% slip (which is a remarkable slip factor) rev limiter kicks in somewhere between 5700 and 6100 rpm (depending on year model) unless it had been disconnected.

With a 26 fury spinning 5750 the theoretical top speed with 0% slip is 81 mph (not possible) let alone 82+

I still say check the tac or gps one or the other is wrong.
