Anyone got an idea of how fast is too fast for a G boat, probly varies between models, figured i would ask to see if anyone has heard of any war stories.

Too heavy to fly like the go-fast boats.

I know of a guy that has had his 2100 with a 250 pro xb up to right around 88, (87.7). There have been some guys who run 2100 with a 300 hanging on the rear and they speak of the low 90's.
I have never heard of any Gambler's running into the triple digits. I had mine to 80 the other day, and it has more room left in it.
A lot of that top end depends on set up, lower unit, and prop...
--But most times you can read of most Gamblers settling in between 82 and 85.
I would love to see a triple digit Gambler, but that would take some work...
I know Wllie Dobbes has a 2200 with a 370+ Yammy...and I heard it does low 90's...
I would question 88 mph with a 250XB......it would need to have been modified and definitely would need a different lower unit.
"Take flight" you ask......well that's gonna depend on water and wind conditions, but I digress. You gonna have to be runnin close to, if not in the triple digits. My .02
Thanks for the input all, hey trashy you say blow out with a torquemaster,,,, how about a bobs nose cone? kinda figured the boat would not loop over( unless being in the right conditions) but more concerned about the rear end walking around and swapping ends. don't want to be the guy everyone learns from![]()

I'm not sure I'd even want to hit 87 with a torquemaster on a Gambler....Bob Ackerbloom turned one around at 86.2 or 86.4 years ago.
And Sportmasters don't work well on Gamblers....not sure how a Bob's would work.
But you'd need some serious hp to get over 85 anyways with a 250 on the back.
Torque master is good to 90 to be safe...But i know for a fact they will go a tad over 92....This was not run a Gambler but not sure the hull is going to effect the lower units ability to blow out...Prop, and driver probably has more effect.
I had the Outlaw at 90 once but would not ever recommend it....The prop blew out on a regular basis at 85 this was on a fleetmaster case....It was very hairy ride!!!![]()

Wrong - he is referring to my old boat. Complete stock 2100 with a XB 250, ran a tad under 88 GPS...many times. It's all about prop and balls. I know you never believed this and never will... thats ok.. we already went through that over a year ago. Plus I had many folks verify...
As far as safe? I agree... probably not the best idea with that lower unit....

Al when I was doing the B.A.S.S. bass boat shootout each year here on Priest Lake, the guy in the Mercury truck loaned me an over the hub prop to try. Now, hole shot was horrible, even with the tabs, but once it broke over it would literally fly. Gps said nearly 89, but it was hairy as it could be and you could tell it was about to break loose in the rear end. Needless to say we did not do the test with that prop but instead went back to the 26 Trophy. If memory serves me right we ran 84.7mph with the Trophy prop. (250XB full of fuel) Don Wirth was my observer and the guy with the gps on the actual printed run. Kevin Thomas, my fishing buddy was the guy holding the gps during the over-the-hub runs. It was not safe that is for sure.
When I had the 250XS with a TM on my 2200 in decent running conditions (light chop) I could run close to 85 with a 30P TXP. However with a 32P bravo I would start to blow out every time at a little over 83.
I believe with a TM LU a lot depends on the prop you are running, the height you are running at and the conditions and of course the hull. If I expected speeds in the mid 80's and above I would have a Bob's nosecone installed on the TM, I believe that set-up would run better on a Gambler than a SM LU. The Yamaha LU is similar to a TM with a nose cone installed, it does not have a long housing like the Merc SM. I don't have a blow-out issue with the stock Yamaha LU I have.
Well i have to comment on the over 85 with some 250's, got a guy thats come by my buddies shop(mirage boats) has a 21ft with a pretty much bone stock 250xb, no major mods(dont know what kind of rpms) but hes showed us 92mph with a bobs nose cone(think 1.62 gears) and a worked 28 or 29 hydramotive. but most of the time hes 88-90 now granted he does nothing but haul ass in this boat ie, no trolling motor, batteries, or anything besides saftey gear.
Typically when a speed is posted on the Gambler boards it is understood as a fishing load speed or at least with the normal gear with batteries, TM, etc; or called out as "tournament load", "light load" or other.
If someone posts an unusually high speed it will be questioned unless you clarify the running conditions as you have in latest post.
I have no doubt a Gambler will run 90 with a stock 250xb under the right conditions provided the boat is lightened enough. However, I don't believe it will happen with a fishing load and a standard weight Gambler bass boat.

Given that a Gambler is a fishing boat I don't see the point of removing everything just to run a little faster. I've not tried a whole bunch of props on mine but I run the boat basically empty as I don't fish tournaments, etc., and I'm about 175 lbs so there's really not much weight and 85 would pretty well be my top end.
There are Gambler owners here that have owned many Gamblers and have tried just about every prop that there is, and there aren't any (to my knowledge) that are running in the high 80's with a 2100 and 250XB on the back.![]()
Cool deal, i appreciate your guys input, i was just wanting to hear from you honest guys on the board( hell i look at most numbers on other brands which i call bs on all the time on the board or at the lake) but glad to here some of the ideas of numbers from you guys, glad to see there are still some honest people out there.
i going to set mine up here in a couple of months but i'm really only looking for mid to high 80's.

I agree. The Gambler is an excellent fishing boat. I do fish tournaments, and most of the time I am solo. My tournament load is a full tank of Gas, livewells, extra seats, extra life jacket, 5 rods, and a tackle box or two. Might not be much, but it gets the job done! I know that is far from the norm of many, or most tournament anglers. I have never really once ran anyone that would give me to much of a problem to exceed 85, needless to say run 80. I am glad to know my boat will run at those speeds if needed.
With the props issue everyone has their own fit and feel as to what they want to run. I haven't found one solid group of answers for running props on Gambler's other than, the 28 Bravo one is the truth...that's the most common answer I have seen with Gamblers...and even then their are nay-sayers to that. I love the trophy, but that prop gets it bit of hate as well!
Gambler puts out one heck of a rig. I know I have always wanted one, and everyone that has one probably has two. I spend a lot of time on these boards asking questions, because I am brand new to the high performace boat world. Not to make a cut a Rangers, but that was what I was brought up on...very well put together boat, but speed wise it's nowhere close to the Gambler I have now...
Willie Dobbs how fast is your Gambler with the stage 3 set up? How much hp are you putting out? Blue Steel informed me that all you do is hurt feeligns with that thing?
What prop/size are you turning?
Also....what do you guys think the highest pitch a gambler with an xb can turn? I have been getting out of the hole fine with no tabs with a 27...
I ran 91 (light) when I had the Ph. II only. I since have installed the HT big bore throttle body that would make it a PH. III less the spacers, haven't ran it light since then. I have ran 90 with a fishing load though. I now have a power pole added that has slowed me down some, don't know how much. I added a lightweight flywheel to improve holeshot and midrange.......works great.
My goal was to be able to run 85 fully loaded with tournament load, livewells, fuel and partner.......at a minimum I can do that.
My guess on HP would be 340-360 give or take.
