2007 Evinrude 150ho etec over propped

I have a 2007 stratos pro 285xl with a 2007 150 Evinrude etec HO E150DHLSU ser no 05161005. Have trouble getting on plane when fully loaded and livewells full with 2 in boat. Mechanic said that computer readout showed I was overpropped. Only achieving max RPM of 5350 when 5750 is supposed to be high end of range. Mechanic suggested I go from Raker II pitch of 24(currently) to a 22 pitch. Does this make sense to you guys? Dealer went out of business since I bought it. Is this something I should talk to Stratos about covering the swapout or Evinrude?

Re: 2007 Evinrude 150ho etec over propped (bird)

5850 is max "operating" range. From what I have seen by those who run the 150HO is to prop for 5800 rpms with a fishing load. You didn't mention how high your prop-shaft is. If you have a jack-plate it will greatly help in dialing in your set-up.

No jack plate and i don't know the prop shaft height. Boat is in the shop.

Go down to a 22". Should be running at least 5600rpm with full load. That should cure your acceleration problems.

Test with Stratos 285 XL with a -06 150 HO with a 24" Raker, spins 5585 rpm at 62,6 mph. This boat was equipped with a 6" jack plate, maybe something for you to consider? If not, go for the 22"

I have a very nice 22 pitch raker if you decide to go that way. PM me for info if you are interested for pictures and cost...

I would get a jack before I bought another prop.

Yes I would agree. Raising the motor can perform miracles by getting the prop to suck a little air from the surface on acceleration. I can achieve remarkable things with my 1992 70hp since I raised the engine. Pulls two 18year old 6' kneeboarders from a deep water start with a 21" pitch SST at around 42mph. That is on a 14' FG runabout with 3 in the boat. That compared with a 17" prop top speed 38mph. Certainly worth looking at.

Re: 2007 Evinrude 150ho etec over propped (LIQUID NIRVANA)

I don't know the boat, but a 24 is a lot of prop for a 150 with a tall gearbox like the E-TEC has.

If you want more holeshot and at least the same top end, you will have that by going back 2" in prop.

According to the Evinrude dealerport web site, march 13 2008 service news letter, the operating range for your motor is 4850-5850 and the recommended range is 5400-5600.

If you want bottom end muscle and mid range and don't spend all day at WOT, I'd set it up to run at 5850 or so, but then I really like holeshot.

You could experiment with motor height but then you would need a jacking plate, water pressure gauge etc.

Best to find a forum which specializes in your boat model and ask what others have done under the same conditions or ask the manufacturer.

A jacking plate alone may help. The prop alone will.

The absolute optimum result will come from installing a jacking plate and THEN finding the correct prop. How much do you want to fiddle? Do you just want to fix holeshot?

Re: 2007 Evinrude 150ho etec over propped (ghind)

Get a bobs machine shop 8" or 10" hydraulic plate. This is the only way you will maximize your performance. As stated by someone else you will need a water pressure gauge.

You can turn the 24 no problem with the bobs plate installed.

Some will recomend the 6" plate but you need more with just a 150 on the tail. The 8 is probably the best for your application.

Set up right and getting the R's you need, the E-TEC 150HO will carry a 24" Raker all day long.

Re: 2007 Evinrude 150ho etec over propped (Bassmeister)

I can pull a 24P turbo to 5600 all day long, and I don't have an Etec Ho. I would get at least a 6 inch jack plate.

Oh and I would drop to a 23p Gade before I went to a 22p raker.
