Post 1984 Mercury 150 Black Max air intake ?

I just bought a 1984 Mercury 150 black max and I was wondering
how these motors get any fresh air ?? there are no vents in the cowl ad there is a foam liner on the inside of the cowling. I guess these motors were designed to run this way, but I can't help but think the engine is starving for air. your thoughts would be appreciated. and any other advice reguarding the motor would only help me.
    thanks
    Eddie
