    Swing Away Tongue

I recentley moved and my boat just fits the garage but have to put the motor down. Dont want to back up through the wall one night, how hard is to install a swing away tongue. What are the better ones out there and also I have surge brakes.

    Re: Swing Away Tongue (C@TCH)

Fulton makes a bolt-on kit to do it. I put one on my SIL's boat at his insistence. Personally I don't think they look good but thats just me. For the money a machine shop could make you a more impressive looking one. As far as the brakes I just added a flexible brake line off a car for his.Heres a pic of the fulton one.

    Re: Swing Away Tongue (C@TCH)

C@TCH the swing-away I have is from the factory. The one Jeff shows in the picture above looks like it would work fine. I don't know what kind of metal it's made from, but if it's steel you could also have it welded on if those bolts concern you. The problem I have with the swing-away tongue's is that someone comes along and pulls the pin and you don't see it, that could be very bad! On mine I drilled a hole through the pin and put a small lock on it. Until you make a decision on cutting the tongue, lay a 2x4 or something on the garage floor so that your trailer wheels will hit it before you go through the back of the garage.

    Re: Swing Away Tongue (G-Boat)

Hey Sandy, does Gambler make their own. The Fulton ones look like cast aluminum so welding is out, but i'm sure the bolts would be good. Would like to see one installed and if anyone has one do they work good. I thought about using a 2 x4 with 2 bolts that can be dropped into cement floor so its always in the same spot. A bump out would have been good but the garage is bricked and that would to much work.

C@TCH Gambler trailers are AmeraTrail, http://www.ameratrail.com/. If you have an AmeraTrail trailer, see if you can find the serial number and give them a call. They have probably run it to this before and maybe they can help you out. At our home in Florida I have to use the swing-away and it works great. If your back wall is brick I think I'd use a 2x4, or a 4x4, that wall could be hard on props.

    Re: Swing Away Tongue (G-Boat)

Thanks for the pic Sandy, that looks like a very simple design........could probably make one myself. Does the pull pin just pull out or does it screw in on the top, what usually holds it in if the lock is not on. Your tongue seems a little longer than on my Intimidator, I dont have a lot of room between the brake piston and the riser for the winch.

    Re: Swing Away Tongue (C@TCH)

Ermanno, we just got up to Lake Champlain last night, 1502 miles from Florida, been busy opening up the house. It's kind of cool running the house completely on solar power. We had the solar installed late last fall and took off for Florida before really getting a chance to check it out. I see guys out fishing here on the lake, man am I so ready for those small mouth.

To answer your question, the pin just pulls out and that's why I put a lock on it.
