    Hot Foot ?

My wife is wanting to operate the boat some now and it would work well for me as in loading and unloading times
Was wondering what all would have to be done to go from hot foot to handle control, she can not push the hot foot.
It is a Gambler hot foot.
Is everything still there and if so, what do I have to change to revert back to handle control?
What do I need to look for to make sure what I need is there?
    Thanks

    Re: Hot Foot ? (SBN)

Some boats that come with a hot foot do not have a shifter that will operate a throttle, they are shift levers only. !!! BUT!!! you really need to think this over again, i lost control of a boat at 70 mph that did not have a hot foot, we turned 320 deg at 70 mph and i was thrown in the floor against my buddy and the kill switch did not come out. The boat was still wide-open and trying to launch again. I pulled the kill switch but i could not move for a few minutes. I will never get in a boat that does not have a hotfoot period. Is it she can't push it or can't reach it, if she can't reach it they make a adjustable base for it.

She can reach it, just can't push it. It is fairly strong for sure.
Yes, this is a factory installed hot foot so I am sure some of the parts are missing, I just have not looked.

I will look at mine to see if it will take a throttle cable, I have a 97 2100 with a 225 pro. In the old days when we added a hot foot we would leave the cables rolled up in the back of the boat but i don't think your going to have that. Maybe someone will know for sure but i will look when i get home. May be safer to teach her to back the trailer into the water.

She does that now, but without her seeing this, I miss out on a bunch of fishing waiting.

When i found my soon-to-be wife she was driving a f350 pulling a 40ft horse trailer and could put it anywhere, but she has to drop the tailgate to back up a empty boat trailer.

Yea mine is not too bad when loaded, it's when she is putting in to load me that she gets fumbuzzled(is that a word?)
But she is getting better, but when the ramp is busy, it just seems like it takes her forever to get backed in.

I would NOT be removing a hot foot from a Gambler and going to a hand throttle.....could end up being very dangerous.

I will tell her to build up her leg muscle then.

My hot foot has adjustable tension.
It seems to me there may be something wrong if your wife can not push it.
I would guess it takes around 10-15 lbs of pressure to push mine to wot.

I definately would not disconnect the hot foot, especially if she is a novice boat, it's way safer

    Re: Hot Foot ? (2100greenmonster)

Thanks guys. She is just not use to one I guess. All our other boats were all stick control and she was ok with them.
Not really hard for me to push, but it might be her legs are not quite long enough to reach it with comfort.

    Re: Hot Foot ? (SBN)

that problem can be fixed pretty easy...the older merc throttle cables were pretty stiff to begin with, and with a strong spring tension on the foot pedal, after a few years, they gey hard to deal with...merc has a new cable out, that is silk smooth, and you dont need much spring tension to bring it back... the cable exchange should be between 150 and 200, but she will be able to use it for sure...mine does...
i will try to post the name of the new cable when i find it...
