Evinrude bouncing while trimming down (fixed)

I am experiencing what a seemingly large number of Evinrude owners have with my 2002 150 HP Ficht Evinrude. It bounces noticeably when trimming down from about halfway up until it reaches the rams. I gathered the recommendations to resolve this issue from several different responses on this site and from my local Evinrude dealer. I started by removing the hydraulic steering ram and injecting grease at the two zerc fittings located on the front of the pivot shaft. I then tightened the adjusting nut using a 1 1/4" wrench. I was able to get about a half a turn on that. I removed the reservoir cap and found the o-ring inside the cap was thin and had hardened, so I replaced that with the same diameter o-ring but selected a thicker one to increase the surface area. I then topped off the fluid, and made sure the cranking battery was fully charged. I took the boat out yesterday and found that the bouncing has been eliminated. Now, I can't say which of these actions resolved the issue or if it was a combination of two or more of them. I will have to monitor it and see if the problem returns, but for right now things are good. Hopefully, if you are having this problem, you can try the same approach and get a similar result.

Good job, tightening the tilt tube nut is one of the first things we recommend on John/Rude forums here along with bleeding air out of the system. Welcome to BBC.
