Evinrude LU oil is a slate gray color

This LU is less than a year old. Does anybody know what the warranty is on these new (not rebuilt) LU from Bombardier. I had it installed by a dealer approved for evinrude and Johnsons.

Is this slate gray color a problem...a small amount of oil is dripping out of the small hole on the side of the LU just in front (towards boat) of the water intake. Is this normal?

It may just be exhaust, carbon, water emulsion that is dripping down or it could be an upper driveshaft seal that is seeping. Take it to your dealer. If it is the seal and it's been less than a year, then it should be warranty.

By all means if it's less than a year old, get it to your dealer!! If it's more than a year.......... same thing ..get it to your dealer!!

I brought the oil to my local shop...he took a good look at the oil and said it looked good. I will admit, in his shop the oil did look to be in good shape. Maybe it was the lighting in my garage that caused me to think it was a different color than it looked outside or in his shop. As far as the oil dripping out of the drain hole, he thought it may be exactly what Seahorse said. I will keep an eye on it.

I refilled my LU with Royal Purple Marine gear lube...has anyone used this stuff? Also, has anyone ever put Lucas oil stabilizer in there LU. I use it in my truck and it makes a world of difference. Thanks for your responses!

Really? Please IM the results of what Lucas oil stabilizer had done for your truck.

I had mine pressure tested...they didn't find anything, but replaced all the seals under warranty anyway.

The lifters were making a racket and after using Lucas the lifters stay quite for about 4 - 5 thousand miles then I do another oil change. If you have any other questions you can call me at 678 602-3292 Thanks!

I had an F100 w/ 200,000 miles on a 360cid. It would start making lifter noise about 3,000 miles after an oil change (no Lucas stuff involved) ...it was my reminder to drain/fill.
