    Transducer Location

Has anyone mounted a transom mount transducer on their boat? If so, where did you place it?

I am looking at mounting one on my boat, but I hate the thought of screwing one to the outside of my boat and not getting the location right the first time.

    thanks

i have the HUMMINBIRD (side imaging) unit so mine has to be on the outside in direct contact with the water...
i mounted my transducer under the transom step up area just behind the pad so its completely out of the water and protected when on plane...
or you can mount your transducer to your jackplate if you dont want to screw holes in your hull!

    Re: Transducer Location (kp crane)

The side imaging sonar is what I am considering, otherwise I would never think about anything other than the thru hull.

In regards to the thru-hulls, I loose my reading on the Lowrance in-dash around 35 mph. Does anyone else experience this problem. I assume this is due to the thru hull being located too far forward. I have been living with it for several years and it isn't that big of a problem for me.

    KP,

Are you happy with your Humminbird SI?

    thanks

.....their great!, the hardest part is getting everything set right to show the most detail and then you have to reset your brain to comprehend what your seeing!

Thanks for the info. I knocked my lu off today so it looks like I have to solve that problem now before I move forward with the new electronics.

    thanks

This is two gear cases for me in two years.

First was a broke prop shaft.

This one took the gear case off below the water intakes.

    Thank God for insurance.

    Re: Transducer Location (Bmc)

the "SIDE IMAGING" shows the best detail between 3 and 6 mph....your probably never going to have a good side imaging picture while on plane!

i guess i mislead you - i'm not expecting the si to preform on plane - i just need a bottom reading - currently i'm not recieving anything. thanks bmc
