Need Information/Advice on my 2008 225H.O. Motor next steps serial check

I read here that one of the big differences for 2008 on this engine is the L2 1.71 gearcase. My understanding was unless specifically requested these engines should ship with the L2 instead of the old 1.86 gear box. I am in Winnipeg Canada and placed an order for the 225H.O. on Jan. 29, as I was told there was special pricing becauseof the Toronto boatshow that was effective until the end of January. On the order it did not specify either 1.71 nor 1.86.
It was delivered to the dealer on Feb. 26 (Model E225DHLSC Serial 05217133)
I do want the 1.71 and am wondering if and what can be done.
Also if someone can tell me what else this engine might not have that are updates for the latest 2008 model. It would also be nice to know the build date to know if it was built for me or if it was an old model.

    Thanks

If you will refer to "Seahorse" Topic'E-Tech HO Gearcase difference for 08 dated 1/20/08 which is on page 2 right now you will see the answer to part of your question. It has to do with the suffix'G' in the serial # of the 225HO E-tec............G

That part I know because I have been told it is 1.86 and does not have the G suffix. What I need to know it how old is this engine and what new 2008 updates does it have and what does it not have.
Also, is there anything I can do to get the 1.71 gearcase. It is still in the crate at the dealer. We have ice here for another month and a half, so I am in no rush for it, but would like a new model with the 1.71.
I need some confirmation regarding what I have read that they should have shipped it with the L2 gearcase, because the 1.86 was not specifically requested. My suspicion is I got an older version instead of a new build when I ordered it.
Also if there is any help as to who and where to call to try to fix what I want.

Did you specifically tell your dealer you wanted the 1.71 ratio?

Not at the order, it was all a rush for the end of Jan. and I heard that if nothing was specified, they would ship with the 1.71 combined with the fact he left on holidays right after that. I talked to him when he got back and that was when he checked and here I am today.
This is where I need to find if they are supposed to be shipping the 1.71 if not specified or not???

I just found out the build date of this engine is October 2007. I am not happy since I ordered Jan 29, 2008 based on model differences. This seems like a 2007 with an 2008 warranty.
Can anyone give me some ideas of what has all been changed on these engines since October 2007, so I know how much I am going to push to get it changed.
I do not need a motor for at least a month to a month and a half, so I am willing to wait and try to get one I want, but not sure where to go or who to call on this one.

If you can wait, push for the motor ya want!! An 08 ph is an 08 ph and the only way to go. To me the jury is still out on the l/u ratios.

Can someone let me know or refer me to a thread what changes were made from 2007 to 2008 225 H.O. and if they know if all or which changes were impelmented before October 2007 and which ones or any after?
I need some exact things to discuss with my dealer.
The only thing I am positive on is that this engine has the 1.86 vs. 1.71 gears, but not sure if it is missing anything else new units being made today would have.

As previously stated, the jury is still out on the 1:71 gears. You may be better off with the 1:86 gears in regards to speed

I agree that from what I see it has not been around as long. I like the lighter weight and the fact it is a higher gear ratio, as I would take a trade off of higher top end vs. quicker holeshot. I also like that to me if it is on the 250H.O., then BRP must think it is tough enough to handle the power and my interpretation is that it might be tougher than the 1.86 or they would have put that on the 250H.O.
Having said that, this is why I would like confirmation that there is no other changes or improvements since October of 2007, which should mean my engine at the dealer has everything else, one built today would have. Then I do not feel as bad, but if there were other changes in the 08 line made since then, like improved oiling, injectors or ???? I am more inclined to push for a newer 08 model.
I have no idea on this and am hoping someone here can fill in the blanks.

Re: Need Information/Advice on my 2008 225H.O. Motor next ... (tazmnaz)

Got the final update from BRP. This may help others looking at the 225 H.O. model for 2008.
My engine has the "F" suffix, which I am told has the powerhead updates. Any 2008 225 H.O. with the "M" suffix will not have the updates.
That is the good news, the bad news is they (BRP head office) state that you cannot get the 225 H.O. with the 1.71 ratio. When I said that I have read it is available and ask what does the "G" suffix refer to if not with the 1.71, I did not get an answer, but anger and a response that once a motor leaves the factory it is mine. They also told my dealer the exact same thing, so he cannot order any with the 1.71.
My feeling is they may be saying this for one of two reasons
    a) They want to run out the 1.86 units before making any 1.71 ones available or
    b) The demand for the 250 and 300 is so good that they do not have any LU2 units to be made available for the 225 engine.
Either way, I am told to lump it or leave it. Not all bad if it is true about the "F" suffix, just wish I could have got the 1.71. Looks like I will be runnin the 225 H.O. but will need to try to find a prop to match the 1.86 now.
