Sounds like a trim relay problem to me.

Your motor has a trim up solenoid, there is a box in the boat that houses the solenoid.

You will need a volt meter, check the voltage in and out of the solenoid while pressing the up button, voltage in but none out, you need a new solenoid.

Hey there guy, The problem with my trim is not the solenoid. I did what said and i have 12 volts coming to it , and i even put a new solenoid on it and it still does not go up but it will go down , anymore suggestions I really don't know that much about this , but i'm trying to do it without putting it in the shop.
    Thanks.,,,,,,,,,,,, Yankee2005

Try reversing the leads on the solenoid and try it, you probably have a bad switch in the throttle.

Re: 85hp Evinrude trim motor (Yankee2005)

Don't reverse the leads on that solenoid. It won't help since you have a solenoid and not a relay. It function is to make contact between the two trim wires when energized.

Does the motor run when trying to go up? Does it act the same from all trim stations? Can you "hear" the solenoid click when you hit the up button? If the solenoid is clicking, then it is energizing and problem is not in switch. If it is not clicking, then you can bypass the switch by jumping from the "hot" side of the solenoid to the blue/white connection at the solenoid. Also make sure the small post ground has a good ground. You can bypass the solenoid by simply going between the two big post. This will feed voltage straight to trim motor. If still nothing, check for a broke blue wire feeding the motor. If none of this works, then problem is probably in motor. A rebuilder like us can rebuild the motor usually for about 1/2 of the price of a new one. John Jones
