Need some help with a 2200

I need some help dialing this thing in. I'm running a 2200 with a 99 225 Ficth. I have changed to a lighting lower unit and can't seem to get it right. It has a stock 8" and a hydrolic 6" setback and to keep water pressure around 20 I have to run the motor about 6" below pad if I bring it up I loose pressure all the way.

Hi Kevin..........so you have a total of 14" of setback? I'm thinking you have to be measuring wrong; I don't see how you could be 6" below the pad.......that's a long way down. How are you measuring?

    What are the two jackplates?

I'm measuring from the lowest point of the hull on the trailer boat level to the center of the prop shaft motor level

Something must be wrong........the 2200 is going to run best at 1-1/2 to 3 inches below pad. I would not go below 15 psi on water pressure. When you raise up the motor is water still peeing out like it does when it's lower? I question the gauge or your lower unit or your water pump.

Its a 20 lower and no it seems to loose pressure when running above 5000. I noticed the last time out I trimmed the motor up and went through a turn is when the pressure dropped the first time and has not been the same sense I'm wondering if I could have sucked some trash up this lake is full of hydrilla. I pulled the lower the pump seems fine was running ok before that trip. The water stream seems to be strong but hard to watch when runnning

I would change out the water pump to begin with...........they're not very expensive and should be changed out each year and in some cases every 2 years. While the pump is being changes out I would check for blockage.........could have some trash at water inlets, t-stat or somewhere else. I had some trash where the water pees out one time that would move back and forth until it finally lodged at the outlet where I could finally remove. With your LU buried at 6 inches below pad you should be pegging the gauge. If you run the motor on a hose I wouldn't rev her up, not good for motor.

You could try posting on the Motor forum for the Johnson guys.......I believe someone over there could help. Good Luck
