Has anyone built any type of divider for the side compartments to hold tackle boxes so the aren't all the way back out of sight?

I considered it briefly. Then stopped. I like the flexibility vs. having something in the way later.
I recall someone posting something about a year ago. Can't recall what exactly but there was a thread on it.

I typically keep all my tackle on the left storage, life vests, rain gear, face mask or helmet (for rain) and downriggers in the right storage. I typically don't put more than 3-4 boxes in the rod locker on the sides. I also try to carry a light load and only take what I need. Greatly improves hole shot and overall performance. Carrying too much gear really slows me down and hole shot suffers so I try to keep it simple. Just me...

For me, that's a good thing. Too much "oh I bet that would work" and I am getting baits.

Alot if guys like the file organizers from office stores for their 3700 boxes. There have been some threads on here several times and they look like they work well. Do you have any sort of organizers or seperaters in there now? I can see what you are talking about. I may not really like that either. Dont like movinf stuff out of the way in order to grab something else sort of thing.

Exactly BTO, and right now they lay down which I don't like, I think I'm gonna go see what I can find form walmart. I didn't think of the file organizers but now Ill check those out!

I keep my tool box back there and stand my storage trays in front of if. Works out just right. The file organizer is a nice addition. I used one in my BassCat, and liked the way it worked out. Instead of Walmart though I suggest an office supply store. More selection.

I agree. Stores like office depot or staples will likely have alot more selection.

I have a small plastic bin that I keep extra line, treble hooks, O rings, o ring pliers and other things I hardly ever need but won't leave home without. I put that all the way in the back and then put my boxes up against it. That bin is out of sight but my boxes are right there.

I'll use a rigid plastic container like a cat litter bucket, cut it down to size to fit in the compartment, and throw either soft plastic bags or hard baits in their original packages into the bin.

Cheap plastic containers with latching or snap-on lids are how I separate plastics by category or brand type. I get them at the local "Dollar Store" cheap and they work great. I can isolate baits by swimbaits, senkos, crappie, etc. It helps me keep a light load and not over pack for the day trip. I also have a box labeled "Didn't Work" where I throw discarded plastics, baits, etc. to keep it from littering up the floor. I can take these boxes in and out as needed.

What I've went to for soft plastics is using ziplocks for soft plastic organization. I take quart size freezer bags and divide my soft plastics up into category's. The usual finesse worms, craws, brush hogs, big worms ect. Then I break those down grouped into bags orgainized by light or dark colors then put into 2 gallon bags. This way I can bring exactly what I need based on where I'm fishing and the conditions. It's cheep and the finished product fits in one of the back compartments witch keeps weaight off the front of the boat. I put a few bags of what I'm moslty going to use on a ring organizer bolted to inside of the middle rod locker. Keeps things simplifed and the boat more weight balanced. Because let's face it most people keep too many soft plastics in there boat. This system would work well with one of the file organizer for hard baits in the front boxes.

This is how I store my tackle and only load into the boat the tackle trays I need for the trip. I store soft plastics in the plastic boxes shown on the right side of the organizer and make up trip boxes for the particular area I am fishing. I split my time about equally between large clear lakes and river and slough backwater and this combined with the time of the year results in about 3 trip boxes that are always loaded with the appropriate plastics. This makes loading for a trip quick and it keeps the boat organized. I hate searching through tackle boxes and bags for lures. You will also notice that I have designed a rod storage system that allows me to store them 3 deep. I can store 24 rods in the short space shown. I used to use the commercially available wall racks but I always ran out of wall before I ran out of rods.

I drilled a large hole and then cut a slot to keep the rod hanging vertical and then placed a cup hook at the end of the slot. I cut the top off the cup hook so it is just a little spike that slips into the eye of the rod. I load the rod up through the big hole and slide it into the slot then hang it on the spike. This picture shows the layout. I bought a closet organizer at Sam's to get the shelving and mounted the rod holder between the two towers. You can't see it in the picture but there is a clothes bar running from the right tower to an adjacent wall where I hang all my seasonal clothes and extra life jackets. I have this in my storage room but it also fits well on the side of the garage wall.Attachment 179755
