Just wondering what props you guys are running on the HP170's with a 90 hp and what speeds you are getting? I have a 13 1/2 x 18 and my top end is 40 mph with the motor set on the 3rd hole.

You might look at the G3 and yamaha web sigts for the test / performance runs they did. It will give you all the info you need

My Eagle 170 w/ a 90 2 stroke came from the factory w/ a 13 1/4" x 17, I can't really give you a good top end for it right now, 'cause I'm still in the break in period, but I'd guess somewhere in the upper 30's. The motor is in the second hole. Yamaha doesn't have a performance bullatin for that boat/motor setup, only the Eagle 170 w/4 stroke variant which tops out a 41.4mph @ 5700 rpm (12 5/8" x 21) or a Eagle 175 w/ a 2 stroke 90, 13 3/4" x 17 which tops out at 36.5 mph @ 5500 rpm. Looks to me like you're in the ball park w/ your numbers.![]()
As our boats are very similar, I'd also be curious as to what the best prop setup is. I've been considering purchasing a SS prop and I'd like to make the best choice before I drop that kind of cash.![]()

If you set that up well you should be getting close to 50 (after break-in) unless you're haulin' the whole family.

Guys a turbo 3 blade 13 1/4 X 17 works really good on my xpress with the 90. My boat is 17' as well. New with a 19" powertech it showed 45 speedo.10"jackplate and 17" turbo shows 53 speedo on my rig.![]()

Is that the Turbo I model you're running?

Is that the Turbo I model you're running? We can't run a jackplate 'cause it'll void the hull warranty. What are the pros and cons of that prop? Comparison to others? TIA![]()

When you say 3rd hole, I assume you mean the lowest setting which will put your prop around 9" below pad(?) Raising the motor 1 hole will pick up RPM's and approx. 3MPH in my experience. You wanna get it close to 6k without going over if it's a 4-stroke.

Sorry about the late reply!Yes it's a turbo 1 ,it's the fastest, best all around prop of the 4 i have tried.By the way Yamaha IS the parent company of turbo and they have a lot of racing experiance. You will be able to run it higher than your aluminum prop or any of the power techs that i have. The turbo FX4 four blade is a really good prop as well, and in a 16''pitch has an awesome holeshot and pulls strong to top end.The 4 blade is about 3 mph slower on my rig,but will carry the load better than the 3 blade and handles rough water a little better. The 4 blade will get your rpms up a little more than the 17'' 3 blade, and may be the better prop for you guys without a jackplate. You cant go wrong with either one in my opinion. One of the guys on the board sells turbo props at a very good price.I can't remember who he is,but i will do a little research and let you know.If you got any questions feel free to ask or email me.![]()

No, actually it is mounted on the 3rd hole from the top. My motor has 4 holes so I can only go up one more but it rides well were it is and I still get all of my trim without prop blowout. My max speed is 40. Wondering if a jackplate would help with my top end?

On my xpress a 6'' plate gave 3mph,and the 10'' gave me 5mph with the same prop.
