    1998 champion 203 with 1998 225 optimax

Any suggestions on getting more then 5000rpm? The motor checked out fine, with everything being within mercury specs. I have tried all different props including a 21, 23, 24 and 25 pitch. No matter what I try, I can't get above 5000rpm. The motor is rated for 5650rpm. I have a 25 pitch on now and the hole shot is weak and again top end is only 50mph at 4800-5000 rpm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hot foot adjusted to open the throttle all the way? I have a 99 champ 203 with a 99 opti 225, and a 98 203 with an 01 opti 225, 25 tempests on both, and both run to 5600 with no problems at all. I'm not a mechanic, but sounds like you have a motor issue that hasn't been found if it is indeed getting WOT.

welcome to BBC, you could try posting this in the champion forum below, may be a motor height issue????

Try this in the Mercury forum. If you have tried different pitch props with no change in RPM, you have a motor issue rather than a boat/set up issue. One quick thought; have you ever changed your fuel lines? Could be a fuel restriction, air restriction or ECU problem.
(Don will want your motor's serial # if you post this in the Merc. forum.)
