I was wondering if anyone knew who the designer of the 216 Hull was. I know John Storie designed the original 201 hull after leaving champion. But shortly after left and designed the Hawk. So where did the 216 come from?

Cody, John Storie didn't really design a new 201 hull but rather "splashed" a 482 series Ranger hull to make the Cobra. You are correct that John Storie wasn't involved with making the 216 hull.
The CEO/President at that time was Charles Luna and he had an outside company come in and build a 216 plug (mold) from the ground up. Sorry, I don't know the name of the company and neither does Kathy. The boat itself is a Coosa (all composite, no wood).

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!
Which 300 series ranger hull was it that he splashed. I thought they were all like 17'-18' boats.
I previously owned a 371V ranger with a Johnson 175HO. I really liked that boat. And it was really fast and smooth for its size.
To me my cobra coosa 216 hull is very similar to the 206 Champion with modifications to the running surface off to the sides of the pad. The 216 running surface off to the sides of the pad extends way past the pad. And the Champion doesn't seem to have that. Both seem to share similar pad and strakes as well as the pad stopping way short of the transom. THis is great i think it allows from allot better bow lift.
The extra foot of length that that 216 has on the 206 seems to mainly be in the cockpit area of the boat.
Not saying that i think that the hulls were designed this similar on purpose but u cant ignore the similarities.
I think it is a great hull design and would love to know who the designer/engineer was.
