Will all the current controls work for an ETEC? I think if you can use your current controls the ETEC it would save you some bucks.

Yes, all his controls will work. The only thing he'll have to replace is the oil tank. By the time the tech removes, cleans and replaces the existing unit, he will be ahead purchasing the new unit. Not only that, the existing tank would have to have the recirc line plugged.

Going ETEC has been a great choice for me when I was in your same position.

It's not a good thing, but motors don't last forever. The ETEC 225HO pushes my 201D fully loaded with 2 guys and full livewells a little over 70 mph(GPS). This with a stock 27 Tempest Plus w/ a slight ding on it. When I first purchased it, I ran 74.6 or 76.4 with a 26 Raker balanced and blueprinted by Mark Croxton. This was with a light load and by myself. It's the fastest I have ever run this boat.

Go for the big block power and get a 3.4 250HO. I am a mercury guy, but I do love those ETECs. Friend of mine just got a 250HO and that thing has so much torque it is crazy. I think a 225HO would be just fine, but I would check on the pricing of a 250HO while I was at it to see the difference. Also I would consider who was dishing out the best warranty.
