    Question 250 HPDI ENGINE TEMP

Doe's anyone have an idea what engine temperature a 2010 250 HPDI VMAX II should run? Mine's around 178 degrees on my Yamaha Digital Gauge which seems high for a 2 Stroke "my old Pro XS ran 127".
I'm not getting any beepers but I don't want to rely on that for something this critical and my VMAX has the stream of an 80 year old man, is that normal too?

First, you cannot compare a Yamaha to a Mercury. Completely different cooling system.

178 seems on the high side. Is the gauge accurate? Is the water pump in good working order? Sounds like it might be on the weak side based on your observation of the pee stream. On the other hand, you don't have a current problem if the alarm is not sounding. But, you could be heading in that direction if the water pump is wearing out. They don't fix themselves.

Thermostats open at 140 so your temps shouldnt be much above that maybe 10 degrees. Whats your water pressure? Looked at your poppet valve lately?

According to what I'm reading, the thermostats should open at 50 degrees C, or 122 degrees F. According to my networked Lowrance 520C, my engine operates between 129 and 135 F. What is your WOT water pressure?

Thanks for the replies guys, I don't get online that often. The water pressure is showing 7-9 psi wot and the temps running 5200 rpm s creeping up to 181 now. I had a new oem lower replaced April 2014 and it had a new pump. I guess I should try the poppit valve next.

PSI is too low. you need a minimum of 12, and your temp is too high.
