    E-Tec Failures

Has any one seen many of the 225 shelling out? I have seen 4 since December including 1 today. All on different boats.

Ronnie - this isn't the best way to get in the mods good graces - drive-by trolling is prohibited in these parts....

    Re: E-Tec Failures (Javelin389)

There were only 6 failures in the dealership I am with in all of the 07 calender year.... We did manage to sell over 25,000hp worth of Etecs in that year as well, so a lot went out...few came back...

    Re: E-Tec Failures (Ronnie Trower)

My lower unit failed last week after 151 hours. My repair shop contacted BRP and a new one is supposed to arrive any day. IF it gets back like new, I'll have no complaints what so-ever. I love my 115. I took the prop off of my Ficht that I traded in and the E-Tec got me 5 mph more on top in. All my buddys who fish w/ me think it is an awesome engine.

No Troll, The dealership i run out of has had a rash of 225s since christmas ( 4 or 5). One that was replaced cratered again at 8hrs. Factory says they have no issues but they keep sending powerheads. No axe to grind, just trying to see if anyone else is having the same issues.

If some magical company could produce an engine or product that would never fail then, they could advertise that this “Magical Company” did not offer a warranty on their products because their product would not ever fail.
However, I have not seen such a company during my tenure on this earth . . . and I think I am as about as old as or older than most on this board. I may not be smarter but a lot older. My soapbox stance is; Every manufacture that offers warranties on their products have problems and the warranty cover those problems. No problems, no warranty, Name the company!

    Re: E-Tec Failures (DoferGofer)

    Once again....

    Don’t blame the engine!

It’s easy to blame the engine ,if it was not rigged properly or you miss something at the delivery check, just a single misunderstood and the problem go ways down until the engine,so who is the falty one? The engine?
Remember if you are stuck of a midle of nowhere ,no matter what you did ,there will be one only responsible ,the engine or the maker of the engine?rarely ,you? probably
What you can do to avoyd such thing like that?
    1) Read your owner’s manual, nobody read it ! if you can’t do this ,tell your son or your sister to do .He or she will be delighted with the idea that they can correct you in an inadequate procedement.
    2) At the delivery check ask for the pre-delivery inspection was made or if you are one of those who buys engines in a box ,ask for a pro service and pay for it.
    3) Who did the rig? Is he capable? How many times they instaled all of your’s accessories before on others boats?the rigging company has experience?but if you do the rigg ,follow strictly the instructions at the manual.
    4) Ethanol has arrived and will stay longer.how old is the gas inside your tank?
Is the stabilizer ,that you are using factory aproved? What is inside your tank can be named gasoline?
    5) what is the quality of your batteries ,are they adequated for the proposed use?are they(the Batt’s) meet the factory specification?
    6) How do you do the regular maintenance (not the scheduled one’s) ,and what do you do ?do you take the cowl out? Do you rinse the engine?do you know how to rinse an engine?do you flush every part that had contact with salty or brackish water?do you crate a coat, film or barrier against the elements?
    7) If you find something wrong with your boat or engine ,ask for your dealer ?if he’s not answering you at propperly time, ask the factory .remember what is your main purpose is to fix a problem not an ego at internet.
    8) If you are afraid with certain behavior in use of the boat or engine, ask first your dealer or the factory, they will gladly response you or goes to internet there is a lot of good people with thousand’s of years of experience.
    9) What is the prop are you using? was it tested before? ,how many RPM’s at WOT?are you sure you are properly propped ?or maybe you are under or over propped?
    10) If you are rerigging or repowering your boat with a brand new engine ,please change your fuel lines, cables ,rewiring and add a new battery
The next time ,if you have a problem with your boat, think wisely and look what was the cause ,sometimes it will be faster ,easier and cheaper way to fix the problem ,and there is a small possibility that you had an engine fault!.

    Have a nice day!JJJ

of the 3 evinrude dealers i know there have been very few problems. The new head that blew with 8 hrs on her usually means that there is something down the line causing it to blow & that has not been fixed.

    Re: E-Tec Failures (chuck21)

Was talking to my dealer at the boat show and inquired as to how the Etecs were doing. He only has had 2 back in the last 2 years. One was human error and the other was a manufacturing defect (Powerhead issue) that BRP promptly took care off. And the one with human error was a pinched line that he ashamedly admitted doing himself. Sounds like a pretty good track record to me...

Thanks Rick, comes back to what I've been alluding to all along. Proper set up by people that know, changes that are beneficial to the product whether in mid year or etc.... goes a long way to customer satisfaction. Again guys this is why the gurus here ask for model and serial #'s as sometimes changes were made mid year to benefit the products longevity and customer sastisfaction.

I asked a simple question and got blasted. If I was trolling I wouldn't use my name. You can check me out and see I ask and answer questions on other boards. Some of the other boards on this site are great. This board makes me glad I run a merc.

Ronnie, I am sure that you are most welcome to frequent this board by everyone here however, how you spend your money is your business. Therefore, on the type engine you buy is your choice, your money, spend it on the engine of your choice.
In fact you should consider posting on boards that don't make you angry.
