    Adding oil to gas ??

I have some concerns about the advice to add oil to the gas of outboards with the oil injection still hooked up..
I have raced Motorcycles for 35 years so am pretty familiar with jetting and 2 stroke engines...When you add excess oil to gas it will actually cause your motor to run lean. The gas will have higher SG and will not vaporize through the carbs or injectors as well. Adding oil will put more lube into the engine, but will cause a leaner condition. So the statement of richening your settings by adding oil is actually false. I know motocross bikes run at 11,000-12,000 RPMs and are a little bit more sensitive to changes in settings, but am I missing something?
I have a 97 vindicator with VRO so I have been following this pretty closely and I appreciate all the advice given...

I can't think of any reason to run oil in the fuel along with the oil injection. If someone is concerned that the injection system will fail, then the best thing to do is run premix and be done with it. After all, you're going to the trouble of adding some oil to the fuel tank anyway, so might as well go all the way. I also feel that injection failure (especially the VRO) is overrated..

DITTO!!!! I would however, if it has the VRO still, change it to the OMS and not worry about premixing. It's messy anyway and hard to be sure with the bigger tanks.

Maybe I should restate myself...I don't know if it has a VRO on it..I doubt that it has been upgraded. Next time I take it into my mechanic I will have him check it out....I will have to do some searching and see what kind of info I can get on the OMS..Thanks

    Thanks for the info...
I love this older motor it runs like a top. My mechanic has done a great job setting the carbs and idle. I am going to check the jetting on the number 1 cylinder in the spring and I should be all set.
