Control Switch Pannel 2003 Cobra Coosa 216

    Backlash, Cleveland,

I heard about this happening a while ago and crossed my fingers and said it would never happen to me but over the weekend at a tournament it did. Now keep in mind that it was raining for a day and a half so I'm thinking that it has something to do with it. As you know the 2003's have the micro touch switches on the control panel for everything. On the second day of the tournament I couldn't get the running lights to shut off nor the power button. At the end of the day I got the lights off and then accidently hit the live well pump out switch and couldn't get that to shut off. When I got home I took the switch panel off and on plugged it from it's harness to get everything to shut off. I brought the panel inside thinking it needed to dry out but looking at the back of it I don't see how it could get wet. I had a bad feeling about this panel from the start and wish that it had turn switches like up front or rocker switches. Did Cobra make a replacement panel? Is it a moisture problem? Reading the news about the new owership going South I guess there is no hope to get help from them so what do you think.

What have you heard from everyone else? Is there a fix?

    Thanks for the help!
    Darrin

    Hi Darrin,

This most definantly is a Backlash question. I don't know a thing about the switch panels except they are a POC.

Backlash will be gone for a couple of weeks though

Re: Control Switch Pannel 2003 Cobra Coosa 216 (Cleveland)

I just went out and plugged the switch panel back in. The power button is on but everything else is off. I pushed on the power button a dozen times and it won't shut off.

I guess it is time to buy a new boat. Like that would go over good

    Anybody have any ideas?

    Darrin

Same thing happened this year to my 2003 (201).It rained hard all day then when I went in to the wieghin i could not turn off the power (light would just dim) and front lights stayed on .So I dissconnected the battery and my wife who knows nothing about boats said it probably has to dry out.She was right next day everything was fine and it never happened again and it rained hard a few times. That same tourney my Motorguide started making humming sounds in the head from the moisture. These problems where not related but just added to the frustration.Backlash knows the deal and is very helpfull

Re: Control Switch Pannel 2003 Cobra Coosa 216 (5BASS)

    5Bass,

I have took the panel off and out thinking the same thing that is was a moisture problem. But the power light still stays on when I plug it back in after a couple of days of drying out.

I did just now disconect it from the battery. When you take the connection away it makes that sound like it used to when you turned the power button on. I think you know the sound I am talking about. It is almost like the power button is stuck in the on position.

I don't know what to do next but I can't believe it is still wet. I'll keep working on it.

    Anybody else have an idea?

    Thanks, Darrin

Re: Control Switch Pannel 2003 Cobra Coosa 216 (Backlash Ar)

    Thank you Backlash.

I called and talked with Jim. He explained that there are a lot of people that have had this problem and switched back to the rotary style switch plate. I will be doing the same very shorty. I have one more thing to try and then I will be calling them back to order it.

Thanks again for your help. I sure am glad we have this board to ask for help.
