Stuck in reverse (Etec 150 HO) 2007 Stratos 285 Pro XL

    Motor is 2007 etec 150ho e/dfi=Y Serial # 05161005

I posted the above topic on General Bassboat Board and Stratos Board. I got a reply suggesting it might be a "shift interrupt switch" problem and that I should follow up here.

I have experieced some sporadic shifting problems this past year. Boat shifts fine 99% of the time. After engaging the reverse gear and traveling a short distance, I then tried to return the boat to Neutral. A few times the shift gear required two handed violent force to get back in Neutral. It never seemed to do it twice in a row. Almost ran into the launch ramp once. A little scary. Can't get it to repeat so dealer can't fix. Any ideas on the cause?????

    Re: Stuck in reverse (Bassmeister)

I have seen on some control boxes that the bb roller in the shifter has worn a groove in the metal and caused this. Is this an BRP control box or after market??

It is important that you pursue this and repair the problem.
Have your dealer remove the lower motor covers and visually inspect the control cables, installation and adjustment.
The control cables should be disconnected from the engine to test for proper operation of the control and cables.
The engine can also be shifted by hand to verify proper operation while the control cables are disconnected.
The boat and engine wiring harness must be connected in a specific manner on your engine. If the harness is not routed properly it could interfere with the operation of the shift or throttle.

    Re: Stuck in reverse (Sportwin)

Thanks. Will bring it back in the Spring. In storage right now. The dealer I bought it from is going out of business. Will have to find new dealer. Should I pursue this as an Etec problem or is this a boat problem. There are a few Warranty dealers for Etec in area but no Stratos Boat dealers with 150 miles.

    Re: Stuck in reverse (bird)

This is most likely a setup/rigging issue, although there is certainly a chance that it is gearcase related.
