Well it finally happened and i never thought it would, upgrading to this particular motor. Last year i had a blazer with a yamaha and had nothing but problems out of the motor. Lost my starter at 3 hours, blew the powerhead at 10, and so on and so on. This year i thought i would start the year with a 250 ProXs, after hearing all the positive things about them. I got the boat and motor this past october and started the break in process and carried it in about 3 weeks ago and we put it on the computer and it showed 6.8 hours and the mechanic said everything looked good, no faults, let her rip. Well i let her rip all right !! I was on the lake saturday checking on my fish for an upcoming tournament this coming saturday and after getting around 30 bites, decided to set the hook on the last bite i had before i moved to check another area, 5 1/2 pounds... got all excited about it and cranked up to go and check another area. Did a little graphing to allow the motor to warm up and proceeded to go down the lake. I was running around 4500 rpms and i hear a strange noise come from the motor and it starts slowing down, losing rpms, then just dies.... UGGHHHHH... crank it back up and heard the most awful thumping.. Carried it to my dealer today and they hooked it up to the computer, showed no faults, everything looked great on the computer. Started pulling plugs to check compression and all the plugs looked great until we got to #6 and it looked like you took an 8 lb sledge hammer to the plug... Called Merc and they are shipping out a new powerhead in the morning and should arrive, first of next week. I dread going through this process all over. Not to mention, all the time, gas , inconveniece, etc with having to break this thing in all over again. I sure wish there was some compensation for all of this, some mercury gear, fuel certificate, just something to put a better taste in my mouth. Good thing its under warranty, seen as how it was purchased in october. It's got a whole 14 hours on the motor and here i am chomping at the bit. Not to mention, Mercury is only gonna send me ONE spark plug to replace the one that mutilated ! That's pathetic......
