way off on set up 07'200 elite???

Champ 200 regular 225 optimax. started out from my measurment about 5" under pad with a 25 p trophy 4 blade. Did not feel I was getting the lift or bow raise that I wanted. And only turning 5600 rpm. Heard a bunch of bla bla bla about 3.5 & 3.25 under pad so I raised my jack plate gained a little speed thats it. Then I tried a 26 p tempest plus gained a little more speed and ran better with a very light load. so today put 13 gal. of gas and an extra body in it and went back to no lift (bow raise) running 5600 rpm 21psi water press. 64 mph. raised my j-plate 3/8 and went to 5400 rpm 18 lb water pressure and 60 mph. I have a tempest plus 25,26 and trophy 25 what to do now??????????????

The 26p tempest is a very inconsistent prop. Maybe 1 out of 5 run well. Really the best fishing loaded prop for that rig is a 25p tempest. Should put you at 5700 rpms and 70-72 mph.

what about getting it out of the water and on the tip of its ass? I heard the best prop for lift was a 4 blade????

I have a 198 which is similar, and also the standard 225 opti. The best I have ever run tournament loaded is 68 and that was with a stock 25 fury, I have a 26 tempest that has been blueprinted and I have yet to run that with a heavy load in the boat, but just me and some fishing gear and 1/2 tank of gas it will run 71 or so. I have tried several props and the 25 fury and 26 tempest are very good performers, a 25 tempest is a good one for heavier loads or very hot weather, otherwise it will be on the rev limiter for that motor (5750). The best engine height has been between 3.5 - 4" below pad.

How much weight do you have in front storage boxes? A 25 tempest is what most run on this set up. Trim extenders would help.

Our boats generally run best with the Tempest Plus or Fury props. The 4 blade Trophy is good if you are going to be in rough water, but is not quite as fast...

My 198 (slightly different hull from the 200) is like Mikemac's....with regular Opti, runs best at 3.75 below and a good 26p Tempest Plus with all large hole plugs. 71.9 GPS at 5750, empty wells, 1/2 tank fuel, 2 people (not small, but not huge, either) and normal tackle load. Weight sensitive...be sure heavier stuff is in rear. I have modified trim extenders...about 1/2 the amount of regular ones. Slight wedges might be the ticket.

I also thought I dodn't need trim wedges because my rooster tail is already higher than the motor. does that make sense?

Hopefully, Pat will be along. Your tail definitely should be no higher than the top of your cowl...

Re: way off on set up 07'200 elite??? (WBtube)

I have same boat and motor. 3.5 to 4" under pad is about right for mine. I am running 25 tempest and getting 5500 to 5600 rpm with full load running 64-66 mph. Mine just won't do more than that. I played with all different heights on jp and it didn't seem to matter. Guys on BBC say to send the prop off to Mark Croxton to get it balanced and blueprinted. I am not willing to spend $300 for 3 mph myself. I do believe that the 25 tempest is the right prop. I have also heard trim extenders help, but like you I already have a good size rooster tail. One last thing remember that rev limit is 5750 on that motor so if you can get 5600 with a heavy load you are doing fairly good. Likely you will be hitting rev limit with a light load.

This is agrevating my calculations with pad level torpedo level 14.75 to pad and 9 to cener of torpedo gives me 5.75 under pad. And if I raise it I lose speed and rpm and throw a rooster tail 4x higher than my motor that was with the 26 tempest I will try the 25 on Friday, sooner if I get the chance.

I have a 2008 200 w/ 200hp Opti. After jacking around with it I found the boat likes to run deep. I kept lowering the JP a little at a time marking the plate at each movement untill I found the sweet spot. I got all out of it can with current set up 25 Temest Plus. Now off to Mark to get worked to even get more. Hopefully

WB, See what happens if you don't trim as high as it will go....With my last Champ, I found it would hop on pad if I took it all the way up and then dropped just a touch.

    okdport....what is your measurement now?

I have not measured it, since it is working great. All I need is about 400 more RPM's I think it will hit 68..

Need to change the prop As posted above. Try to see if you can borrow a friends 25 Tempest and test.
