    Pedestal Base Conversions

My old pedestals are shot and to top that off they have been stuck in the bases for the last 2 years. I know I can change out the hydraulic inners but at this point I was thinking about converting the bases from snap-n-lock to pin and buying new pin pedestals.

Has anyone done the conversion using the Attwood adapter? If so are the pin pedestals secure or do they wobble.

    Re: Pedestal Base Conversions (Champ202)

The previous owner of my ride wore out the tapered socket years ago. He ended up drilling out the center just big enough to install a 3/4" pin style base. Of course he never removed the post so when I bought it you could not make it come out. I bought a new replacement base but went to the threaded 3/4" pin style, thinking it it did ever freeze up in the socket it would back out easier when putting a strap wrench on it. I did the saem conversion on the rear deck, works just fine and now I can pull off the seats if I want. I have one of those drop in adapters, which I have in the floor mount, but it still has a little wiggle to it. So now I use it to keep stuff from getting into the bilge, or I will stow my front pedestal there when trailering.

I just bought another Champ and plan on converting those mounts the same way, and as I'm starting a re-carpet job on it the deck will look like it was factory installed when I'm done.

If you're talking about those plastic plugs that drop in - then yes, I've got one in the front base and I love it. Works great. I had to shave it down a bit to fit in the Champion base which I think is a bit tighter than other. I think I read it's .075 instead of .077? somebody on here will know.

I only was able to find one of the plug ins - so if you know where to find others - please share.

I'd like to do the back base too.

It's obviously not as good as a whole new base - but it sure works well enough for me.

    Good Luck

ps - if you need a pic - lemme know.

Bass Pro had the Taper Lock conversion inserts ... you might check there, if that is what you all are talking about. A picture would help!

Here is the adapter in the Attwood Catalog.

First Choice Marine has them in stock -- Google "Attwood Pedestal Adapter SP-14000" or go to the link below...

Thanks! I had never seen one like that! Good deal!

I have never had an issue with my snap-lock pedestals because I remove them as soon as I get off the water.

I've seen them at Gander Mountain, also, in the store at Bass Pro. I think they were about $10.
