Will the fuel tank in a 96 model 202 come out with the top cap still on the boat ? Looks to be a "contoured fit" like maybe the tank went in before the top cap went on. Thanks in advance for info of any type. Larry![]()

Pretty sure it will. Someone who has "been there" will be along to help..![]()
I have never heard of one on any model that will not be removable.
It should, but I never have. Why do you want to pull the tank? Unless it leaks, you should be able to get to anything you need to without pullling the fuel tank. Pulll the batts, set the oil tank aside, and the aluminum trays will lift up to get to pumps and transducers etc.

I have mine empty and disconnected, since I wanted to pull it forward to get to the bolts for my jack plate install. I am not sure I could get it out even with everything removed?
It would defiantly take two or more guys and a bit of work!

I have a '95 202 with the 31 gallon fuel tank standard with most Champs of that period. Prior to this, I had a '94 190 with basically the same hull and fuel tank. I was able to remove the fuel tank from the 190 for the purpose of installing a jack plate. It did not come out easily but it did come out. Some muscle is going to be needed to remove it. The tank will flex a little. It goes back in easier than it comes out.
Thanks Guys
removing the tank is something that I thought might be better in the long run because I need to change pumps, reseal jackplate bolts and the drain plug insert is loose (leaks a little) Not to mention that the hull fittings/drains in the lower transom for the livewell intake and outlet are the original and I have had an older boat that one of these fittings just split from the age of the plastic getting brittle. It is a bad feeling when your out fishing and step down off the front deck and hear that SPAT of a step hitting the wet carpet and then find out your old factory bilge pump is too weak to pump water!!!! Just trying to get ahead of problems for a change. Nice to see there are still alot of the 202 models still out there. I guess if I press on with this I can let fellow 202ers know if it can be done.. Thanks again Larry
This probably doesn't help, but I have a 99 193 with a 48 gallon u-shape tank in the bank. Tried everything I could to get it out last year and couldn't. I swear they must have built the boat around it. Disconnect everything and even remove the weather strip around the hatch, every fraction of an inch counts.
If what you have is a 31 gallon tank, most 202 I have seen in that age area did, and the Elite had extra Aux fuel tank as a option if I remember correct. It will take a little work but the tank will come out. I have a 186 with the same fuel tank and the beam on a 202 is 1 inch wider than my 186 and I have had mine out before and was able to do it by myself.
I removed mine plus the motor and jack plate for a shop to do some work on the transom. But as stated pumps, bolts ect can be reached with the fuel tank in place.

My 95, I did not have to remove it to do pumps or seal bolts.Tight fit for the bolts but did not have to remove tank.

As Billy said, I didn't have to remove the tanks on my 97 either to replace pumps and tighten bolts. Yes the bolts are tight, but I was able to get a closed end wrench on them while my buddy tightened them with a socket on the transom...
I have gotten to every bolt and fitting in the back of the boat with my 41 gal tank IN PLACE in my 97 202. Sounds/ looks like a nightmare to take it out.![]()
I never removed the tank on a 202, or would I ever want that task. Honestly don't remember if the tank was installed before the cap was put on or not, chances are really good they did.
