    Gamins replacing Elites

Have any of you guys replaced the Elite 7 with a Garmin unit. I ask because I replaced a 550c with a Elite 7 and it is a piece of junk. I guess my question is, are the Garmin's in the $700.00 range better that the Elites? Particularly the GPS, my boat would out run the GPS while using the trolling motor. The fish finder on the Elite doesn't come close to what the 550C was.

I am not too familiar with the elite 7 but i can tell you that the echomap 73 in that price range has a 5hz gps antenna so it updates 5 times per sec. I tried to look at the spec's for the elite but couldn't find any on the gps other than highly sensitive and gps/waas
garmins track glonass sat's too so the accuracy is incredible. Garmins sonar has always been top notch even in the entry level units.

somebody who has made the switch might be able to chime in here.
Special thanks to my sponsors- Team Daiwa, Garmin Electronics, Gill Technical Fishing, Bass Magnet Lures, and Upper Canada Marine.

My comments going forward are subjective because I made the decision to switch over to Garmin.

To the models that are similar to your current Elite 7 experience: Garmin 70s, 70dv, 73s, 73sv. I switched to echoMap 70dv and Garmin 840XS with no regrets! I owned Lowrance HDS7 and HDS8 with SS-1 hardware. I'm very happy with my move to Garmin.

Here is what you can expect. Also, I would suggest you do your research to see if the switch is a good fit for you.

    1. Mapping: 70 series echoMap units has 5700 built in LakeVu HD built in lake maps. No need to buy any navionics chips. Garmin has their own proprietary built in mapping that's quite impressive. For additional map needs they offer LakeVu Ultra HD MaxDef. That mapping is unbelievable and better then anything I've used from Navionics. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/prod148922.html

    2. Sonar 2D on Garmins is outstanding. Their $699 units has DV included. Quite impressive and you can waypoint share between units with NMEA0183 adapter.

    3. Ease of use. The menu system is very intuitive. I've found I do not need to reference the manual that much. If I need additional support I can contact Garmin and the local gurus here.

This is short and sweet but gives you a snap shot to the quality experience you can expect from Garmin.

That 550c is the one that made me jump ship from Humminbird There great little units for the money I have no regrets . I have the new 73DV waiting on the 93SV and from what I can tell the GPS is outstanding from just messing with it it picks up sat signals inside the house about 10ft from window I can not wait to get them both installed and hit the water . I think you would love the new Garmins has to be better then what you have now .
