    Kudos to Garmin

Garmin has really stepped up. Came out with a base unit to compete with what is now run of the mill side/down at a competitive price; echoMap93sv is just one. Years ago, Lowrance was the leader and others had to follow. Then Humminbird came out with sideimaging and they jumped to the front. Others had to follow. 360 is still an exclusive Humminbird product. Garmin s offering CHIRP 2D,down and side. Big jump. Now Garmin has jumped ahead with the Panoptix. And surprise, surprise, it is compatible with a bunch of units. Now that's how competition should work. It's pricey. Just have to hope for a rebate promotion. I don't suppose that there is any chance they would set a world record and partner with Lowrance or Humminbird to produce software so the Panoptix would run on their units. They could do it. Just need an Ethernet adapter cable and software to run on the other brands. If they want sales to really explode that would do it.

If LakeVu Ultra HD MaxDef supports your lakes trust me this is better mapping experience then current Navionics offerings IMO. Good luck!

Garmins motto has always been "follow the leader"
I doubt they are gonna change that anytime soon. They are the worlds largest gps navigation company and they have the systems all integrated together to control the enviroment and give the consumer the ultimate experience.
Garmin has excelled at every market they have gone after and I don't think the freshwater angler is gonna be any different.

Could they offer the panoptix for other manufactures, yes. Are they probably gonna, no......
Special thanks to my sponsors- Team Daiwa, Garmin Electronics, Gill Technical Fishing, Bass Magnet Lures, and Upper Canada Marine.

I have to have my head in the clouds. I'm still hoping that someone who has the money to pay the lawyers will get into the independent fishfinder software business. Seeing wifi enabled units that will display their screens on a iPhone, Galaxy phone and tablets tells me that there is no Lowrance, Humminbird or Garmin required hardware to display this stuff once it has an origin. Most of the so-called hardware incompatibilities that require us to buy a new unit to use a new feature are bogus. It's just how they get our money. Until then I'll just keep forking it out. Expecting a 7610xsv in a week or two. Hoping that Garmin will do a promotional rebate on the Panoptix. Yea, again, my head is in the clouds.
