1198 at bow and 1198 at console with ethernet between the two units...share waypoints etc...only thing i use on the network side that i might miss is i sometimes have my bow unit to use my transom ducer to reduce smear etc...no 360 and no desire for it...no HS puck which i think i would gain with garmin
Use side imaging a lot at both console and bow..would like to use 2d more but it sucks on the 1198..lol
Going with the 93 is gonna drop you about 1.4 inches off the screen size.
your networking will only share waypoints and not transducers so you won't be able to share sonar back and forth.
there are no nmea 2000 ports so adding additional features will not be available.
One nice thing is the mapping is built into both units so that is a less expense.
the 93sv's have a all in one transducer so there is no need for multiple pucks on the boat.
If I were looking at a direct replacement for the bird's you might want to consider the 1040's with a gcv10 network/sidevu and downvu. This will give you ability to share sonar back and forth and adds a few extra features for expansion down the road.
Cost wise the 93's are gonna be a tough one to beat by any manufacture for the features and screen size it has.

would you say the 7612 is a good replacement for an 1198?
yes i would, the 7612 is way ahead of the 1198 in IMO.
even the 7610 is about the same screen size as the bird but with a lot more features.
the 7600's are more on par with the onix.

Gotta ask. What's the difference between 7610 and 1040xs?
The 7600's are Garmin's newest generation with touch screen, higher resolution, sonar built into them in the XSV model and have the g2 us coastal and lakevu built into them. They are available in a 7",8",10",12" and their newest 16" for us older visually challenged.
They are one model below their 8000 series glasshelms that are commonly seen on offshore fishing and pleasure boats.
