    92 johnson 175 jetting

Does anyone have the jetting specs for a 92 175 johnson. What is standard and what is the specs for altitude above 4500? I have the manual but it doe not say where I am at or where I should be at just gives different orfice's part numbers.

Pull one of your main, mid and idle orifaces and post and also if you can post a pic of your best plug, either #4 or #3. Just to check the color of the electrode and also what type of fuel you are running. High altitude is tough to call. Best to consult with a local dealer.

Re: 92 johnson 175 jetting (ChampioNman)

I called the local dealer he told me all they do is reprop? I don't know much about boats but for top performance on my motorcycles I have to rejet to get my power up. I know I have to keep from leaning out to much and melting things down but on my bikes I can make them run quite a bit better by jetting properly fuel mileage is also improved. Dealer also told me I should go to a aluminum prop instead of my stainless. My manual states that I need to rejet but it does not give any base line of where to start. Thanks for your help. I forgot to add the boat is surrounded by about 20 inches of snow and it is cold out so It will have to wait for a warmer day to pull the jets.

    Re: 92 johnson 175 jetting (bassworm1)

Well acording to the serial number it is a 92. I don't know a whole lot about it I haven't owned it that long just bought it the first part of november and had it out once. It had some problems someone had been trying to get it to idle and had the carbs out of sync come to find out they had the wrong plugs in it wich cause a low speed miss fire. It ran pretty strong the time I took it out I am hopeing it runs better now. I can't take it out now the water is to hard. I think it will run super strong once I get it all set properly. Do you know much about the wrh? Was it anything special or just a paint sceme. Matt

You will want to drop in oriface size to richen the mixture and decrease the airflow. the #2 carb deal doesn't apply to your style motor it is for a 90* big block.

Re: 92 johnson 175 jetting (ChampioNman)

Championman wouldn't I need to lean out the mixture for higher altitude?? Wouldn't I need to go to a smaller main jet and larger a air bleeds?? Do you have baseline on how much I should go for 4500 ft. According to my old black max mercury book I should go .002 down on main jets for my old 150. Would that be about correct for this motor also?

It doesn't say anything in the factory manual about high altitude jet changes.

Thats funny my manual talks about how you need to jet for altitude but does not give any base line of how much to go. I think I will find a seloc manual and see if it says in more detail.

That is what I'm trying to tell you. Drop from say an .067 to a .065. Best bet is to check with a local shop and see what they use for your altitude. I'm at sea level.
