A little bit of time with my Garmin's on the water..... Auto Guidance is the BA Cool

I fished for 3.5 hours today. Had a very good day fishing new water. Alabama Rig produced in 48° water temps with the help of my Garmin 840XS. Now getting to these marked staging areas after pre-planning on my Garmin's free Homeport App on my Mac had me fishing water I've never been on before. It was time to challenge my Garmin 840XS. I tried out the new Auto-guidance feature. Wow!!!! I navigated new water and felt completely safe. Point to the waypoint you want to navigate to, Select "Guidance" and Pictures are worth a thousand words. Notice the orange line on the graph. If you sway off course the orange line will direct you back on path.

Got in my boat and Had a very good day fishing new water. Alabama Rig was produced in 48° water temps.

On more neat tease. I took a pic instead of doing a screen capture... Oops.....

Here's Garmin's fish eye view perspective. Kinda of neat not sure how I'd use it.

Caught a whopper today. 7.54lbs on Alabama Rig....

Nice! What is the birds eye view, is it the bottom contour? Too much glare from the sun to see what it is. How's the new Evinrude compared to other motors, or is this your first boat?

Interesting.... Not near that much glare live during the drive..... Just forgot to do screen capture. As noted the pic doesn't do it justice but if you look at it fish eye view provides 3D contours in real time from Garmin's fresh scanned mapping. I tell you Auto Guidance is a very underrated feature... Nothing close at this time. I'll preface at this time. However, nice having it now. From my experience with my other units I've owned any attempt to go to another waypoint from your current position is a straight line from your current position over land marks to your waypoint. Auto guidance is a real use feature that has real value as long as your lake is Ultra HD MaxDef supported. Again, most to all major reservoirs in Alabama are Garmin supported now.

I want to be sure to inform there is Garmin disclaimer for safety. Water levels subject to change so be advised. However, with dynamic Lake levels Garmin's fresh lake mapping scans from their proprietary vessels provides the security I'm comfortable with. Additionally, you can set safety depths at 3, 6 or deeper depths for added navigational safety.

Next time out I figure out depth range shading. Also, Will look to screen capture both DownVue and SideVu images. What I've seen is very impressive. The default orange really does well in sunlight. Today would have been a good time to use depth range shading since I was targeting depths from 10-16' structure breaks near flats (staging areas) with shallow flats nearby. It's going to take some time to learn all the features from Garmin. I couldn't be happier.

Birdseye view: I could be wrong is aerial view front bow forward perspective heading like behind the seat of a car looking out over the steering wheel.

I've owned many larger bass boats, did my homework with the 150 HO Etec and I'm very impressed and happy especially with 7 year promo warranty from BRP. Regarding motors.... I've owned them all with great ownership experiences. Anyone with interest PM.

I have the 1020 and the 820 on my boat. You can install the garmin helm app on your phone or tablet and completely control the units individually from them and it also lets you do a screen record on your devices for easier playback later or upload to a computer.

Hawgripper, I have the Helm App. Need to spend time with that free software from Garmin. Can't wait to take advantage of the wireless connectivity too.. These units are quite techy but easy to use. I just need seat time. Next todo's is map sharing, depth range shading and will make a trip to either Lewis Smith Lake or Logan Martin to try out Dynamic Lake Level adjustments. Both those lakes have significant winter draw downs. On Logan, I've sure have dinged a few props because of winter drawn. Ouch!

    RS,

You bet. I bought into Garmin's offerings 9 plus months ago or close to there off when I saw LakeVu HD Ultra Maxdef demoed and the lakes it supported in my state. That was the hook for me. Then I discover the other cool attributes after I thoroughly researched what I thought was the best setup for me.

Side Note: Free HomePort App from Garmin allows you to load and use your LakeVu SD Mapping Card. Also, each Garmin owner has the ability to copy Maps from your Garmin Units onto a SD Card then load them up on your PC or Mac to lake plan and create waypoints. How cool is that?
