Had my boat at the house all weekend and coulda shot some poix and taken measurements. Mine is either factory or dealer installed. If you don't get what you need by Sat AM, I can help out then.
Just lay the drill flat on the deck. My biggest fear is drilling into the plastic tube and twisting up all the wires. I just put mine in from the old boat yesterday. Went fine.

just make sure the holes of the locker bar where you put the lock line up...
It really helps to have another person with you to hold the other end as you make sure the bar holes line up for the lock, and the ends are exactly right to fit into the "brackets".
Agree with the lay the drill flat on the deck. Good way. Tape it off first.
Totally agree with the holes lining up!!!!!! I can tell you from experience those rods are tough to drill !!!

When I installed one on the 181 I followed all the advice listed here, but be sure that you mark the position on the gunnel to be drilled *With* the holes in the bar lined up exactly *With* the lock inserted - very carefully...
A fraction of an inch (forward/backward) on the mounting of the bracket on either side will cause the bar holes not to line up perfectly & the lock *Not* to fit through at all after you already drilled holes in the fiberglass...
The result being you *May* have to then drill or enlarge the bar holes in both sections of the bar and drilling stainless steel on a 1 1/2" pipe is very difficut - even with a drill press.... Don't ask me how I know this
I just drilled mine so the lock is right in the center of the boat.It was not that hard.........................Oh yea it helps to work in a machine shop.

Don't sweat it. If you get the holes off on the bar where the lock goes, just trim one end of the pipe off enough to slide the pipe and make the hole line up.

Not sure I have the equipment to cut the damn stainless bar either - I must have gone through $60 worth of drill bits - but finally got it wallowed out enough to put the lock through

They can be found on the internet pretty cheap...
I use tile saws to cut holes in my boat. I couldn't imagine using a regular hole saw. These are perfect for fiberglass. Won't hang wires as easily.

I used a 4 1/2" side grinder with a metal cutting wheel. Took about 30 seconds to cut through it, then changed wheels and ground the sharp edge smooth.
