    Re: GAS GAUGES (Lea)

Since the sending unit is a variable resistor controled by a float on the end of an arm, there has to be enough gas in the tank to float the float ...

You can go to my post pinned near the top of the ChamioN forum called, Champion Information and OEM Links for more Champ info. Once there, scroll down to Gauges then the Fuel System Troubleshooting. You can test the gauge, by going through the top paragraph. If the gauge is OK, the you have to pull the sending until to test and calibrate it. Typically, a bigger PITA than it is all worth, unless the sending unit totally craps out ... just sayin

187 had dual tanks? My '99 187 has one very large 45 gal tank. 5 gallons of gas didn't budge the float, needed more than that. Only reason I know is I watched it (on the trailer) after I siphoned all the old gas out and started with a fresh batch.

    +1!

Mine is worthless to me. 15 gallons is a full tank for me, 10 will do it 90% of the time. I rarely show more than an 1/8th on the gauge.

I've checked brochure for 05 and other years, and do not see an auxillary tank as an option. They show fuel capacity for the CX as 48 gals.

    Shane, what is a 187cx33?

    Re: GAS GAUGES (mha)

i like to have 25-35 gallons but not full
on lake of the woods you can run 70-80 miles one way
ya never know where you might end up...
and found out yesterday that "e" is empty...

sorry leave of fthe 33 part.lol

it has duel tanks on it and only one portal to put gas in it, i ve never seen anything like it. the filler neck splits in the middle and it runs evenly into both tanks to distribute weight evenly in the boat.

Can't grasp the theory. Something new to me. I would like to know more about that idea and how it works.

Yeah, never heard of a setup like that in a Champ. Pix would be great ...

    Re: GAS GAUGES (shaneomac1)

Shaneomac is right. The 2005 model 187 cx has 2 tanks. The filler line splits into both tanks. It holds 48 gallons of fuel. From what I understand it was standered on the boat. I saw pic of a 2006 187 cx and it was the same way in the back

My 05 187 is a 48 gallon tank that looks like two but is only one.
Open across the bottom. One fill, one vent, one line to motor.

Exactly the same as my '99 187. The sending unit is to the right of the pic, should be a snap to remove and check. It's one large tank with an equalizer line actross the top as fuel reaches the separate larger parts of the cell.

    Re: GAS GAUGES (shaneomac1)

We are all friends here, but Mr. Obvious tells me that is one tank. I have the same one. I thought it was a 52 Gallon? I would not know, I have never filled it up... OUCH....

As for gas level. Depending how far to the left gauge reads of "E" I don't get concerned. I can put in 60 dollars and not get half a tank so there is a good margin of error sort of speak.
