    Setup on a 2006 198 Champ

Had a chance to run my new boat in some good water for the 1st time. 2-people + gear ran 65mph (GPS) and around 5900 RPMS. The jackplate is currently at 4in. below pad....

    Setup:

    225 ProXS
    25P Tempest Prop
    JP set 4" below pad

    Questions:

    1. Will raising the JP to 3.5" make a big difference in ride/rpm/speed?
    2. What should the water pressure be at WOT?
    3. Also, a wire on the trim sending unit was broken off and I soldered for a quick fix. The trim guage worked after I soldered, but now not working. Does the sending unit serve any purpose other than allowing trim guage to read?

    Thanks all!

If you raise it up to 3.5" you might need a bigger prop. Your RPMs could end up close to 6100.

Raising it up should help some if you are having steering issues or chine walk.

If I remember correctly, the minimum WP at WOT should be 15 PSI with 20-25 being ideal

    1. It should increase rpms and speed unless you're really packing a load.

    2. 15 all day long is fine, some can live with 12, but that's a little low for me.

    3. Trim gauge...take it out and stick a happy face over the hole, both will have equal value.

Possible performance - see my link below. You need a 26 pitch. You may need to replace the trim sending unit. Very easy to do. After you get setup, you should run 71-73 everyday.
