    counter balance on a 201

alright let me start of by saying I am a big boy(325#) but here is the deal my 201 runs good til about 59, but from 59 to 62 when I trim it out it starts to bounce not a chine walk but a porposing (sp.). I had my dad he is my size he was sitting on the front rod locker passenger side and my niece in the boat and got 59 trimed all the way out no bounce. last week I had my son in the boat he weighs about 85# it was a pretty choppy day but I was able to gt to 66.7 mph I am running a renegade 25 I have a good raker 24 and all the props do it. some times if I turn slowley right it will stay not bounce. I have put a straight edge on the pad and it is true. I know I am a big boy and this boat is narrow. My best guess is that when I get up on the pad I am running on only part of it because of my weight? would it be worth it to try to counter balance my weight with lead on the passnger side? I was cool with running 59 mph til last week when it really opened up now that I know it can do it I want to do it. any thoughts ???

as for where everything in my boat is now. rods are on the drivers side(14 of them) on the passenger side rod locker there is probably 60# of tackle. my spare prop and anchor are in the passenger side rear storage. 2 troling motor batteries on passsenger side 1 starting batterie on driver side life vests in driverside rear storage.
    thanks

Just my opinion, but I would guess your props need some extra tip cup to carry the weight. When you load it up the prop can't Handel the extra weight and cannot lift the bow (no speed), When light it can get the bow up, but can't hold it up causing the porpoising.

Sounds like your prop is losing bite.

I thought that too except for when I put more weight on the pasenger side I dont have the problem figured more weight would make it worse even with my dad sitting up front it should have been even more nose heavy and the prop shouldnt be able to lift it but I didnt have any problems

Isn't porpoising normally an engine height issue?

I think there's truth to everything said.
I like your balance idea. Balance is the only way to stay on pad regardless of how much it weighs.
I agree on the height comment too. That can cause it and sometimes too low is worse than too high.
It seems like a magic prop would help as well.
I'm betting you're not running flat enough but I don't know how to tell you to run flatter.

It would be interesting to see pics of you running from all angles.
Are you leaning? Are you nose high? Pics would answer.

I'd keep shuffling your load around and note any changes.
This is off the wall, but is your engine level left to right?
I've had jackplates where you had to crank one side down tight and adjust the other to get it really level.

I've also seen something as simple as a transducer mounted wrong disturbing water flow to the prop throwing things out of whack.

    Gremlins can be anywhere!

I like your thinking though. I would start with balance.

    6" rapid jack to start...

Find a known good 25 tempest, put the bomb hub kit in it, set at 3 3/4" shaft under pad and you'll think you got a new boat...

And make DANG sure you don't have any crap hanging off the transom that will deflect water flow...speedo pickups, transducers, ladders, whatever...

    This might sound rough...

I setup a boat to run it's best, adjust as needed for holeshot. Whatever happens between those two is really not important.
