Need our moderaters to settle an argument

we were sitting around the lunchroom debating octane requirements.

Can a 98 FastStrike 150 run on 87 octane. I have a $50 side bet that they will run fine on 87.

    Am I out 50 bucks?

YOU WIN! Most all OMC BRP motors will run just fine on 87 octane. But the 98 Fastrike will indeed run quite well on 87. octane.

Even a diesel engine will run on 87 octane...just not very long.

You are lucky the discussion is in the Evinrude-Johnson category, as the Yamaha 4-stroke 250, Verado 275, Merc XS300, etc. need premium fuels according to their owners manual. To those who want to nitpick, the Yamaha F250 book says premium fuel, then says 89 octane minimum.
