Missouri River flooding

Spent the last week evacuating my home and family. Had to move all furniture out of basement and main floor due to the impending high water coming down the Missouri River. We are experiencing record releases from damns north of us that are scheduled to continue for the next 30-60 days. Going to be a long painful summer for sure. I know there are many communities flooding all along the Missouri river starting as far north as Pierre SD, all the way down to Southwest Ia and further I would guess.

My family is safe, and that is the most important thing. Hope anyone else out there that is coping with this situation can stay safe.

I was wondering how you were doing down there. Been away from my pc for a couple of weeks. They started releasing 150,000 cfs about an hour ago from Oahe Reservoir. Said it will run like that into August. No river fishing for me this summer. Stay dry and safe dude.

Thanks for your concern guys. Our releases go to 140000 cfs from gavins point today and then up to 150k cfs on the 14th hopefully that will be the peak but, it all depends on future rains in montana and the dakotas. The problem is that they will run that water at 150k cfs until mid August, which will create a lot of groundwater seepage.

Army Corps of Engineers have a very tough job----we all blame the flooding in our communities on the corps. ---i live along the Big Mo. also.
This flooding has so many variable that cause it. We look only at our own communities. "REMEMBER we ALL live down stream." This flooding is not only dictated by rain and snow in the dakotas and Montana, but by heavy rain in Minnesota/ Wis/Iowa/illinois/Mo/Ar/Tn/Ms/La. The Mo. river can only send as much as the Mississippi can handle. 4 weeks ago Memphis and Louisianna were flooding. Table Rock Reservoir was purposely held to its brink due to flooding 285 miles to the southeast of it in Memphis,Tn.
Look at the geoography of the USA and see where the water all ends up. The southwestern USA due to it arrid desert like topography needs some of our water through sometype of diversion.---They really do need it and they always need it. The water on this side of the rockies is used for electricity generation---however I am sure we could come up with some way of recycling the water flow to reuse some of this water in dry years---because it ebventually all just ends up in the ocean.

Knock on wood.....and thanks to many volunteers, national guard and the corp, we have been fighting and holding our ground. River levels are about 3 foot lower than originally estimated. Today they increase releases the last 5 -10k cfs, which should raise the river less than a foot. I am one of the lucky ones, Our housing development has 3 areas. The area closest to the river was mandatory evac for about 600 homes. Although we packed up our house, we have not been forced out as of yet but, you never know. If our main levee breaks, I am told we will have 24 hours to get out. There will be many homes sacrificed to save others homes. My heart goes out to those families, many of them friends of mine and my children.

I feel for all of the communities along the river and to the south of us. Many of them are suffering worse than we are. With these high river flows projected to run for 60 to 90 days it will be a long summer for all communities along the big mo and the mississippi. I hope that rain can stay west of the rockies where it is needed.

Here is a picture of the main boat ramp I would use. Water is flowing right under the I-29 overpass. The gap between the trees was the ramp. That is a 2 year old hotel on the the left that is now an island.:

Over here too but get this Lake Livingston is over a foot higher than normal pool level
