    education on garmin?

So I'm a bit confused by Garmins offerings. I thought I was set on getting the 93sv for the console. I wanted the simplicity of all in 1 unit, having side and down view.

I wanted a matching unit up front for regular sonar and possibly down view. I also would like to be able to see and share waypoints. I don't have the ability with my current units, so I was looking forward to that.

Looks like the 93sv doesn't allow this sharing feature. I also see it only has 1 slot for a sd card, meaning if you get garmin ultra mapping, you won't be able to record your scans, correct?

So what unit should I get, for my situation ? I didn't want to install multiple boxes and such. I also don't care about coastal mapping.

I"ve contacted Garmin and was told the 93sv will be able to share waypoints via NMEA0183. They will be offer a NMEA0183 add-on kit. That info comes from Garmin.

So ill have to get another box? Or is that as simple as a cable from unit to unit, like Ethernet?

Now adding a NMEA 0183 kitt....seriously:))) Will that allow FULL management, editing, naming, etc on all connected units from any one unit...I am betting not. Can you share down and side scan between units....better check on that as well.

So why would you not go with a system that does everything you want automatically...Full waypoint sharing, Full map card sharing, side and down if you choose...have it all ...on ALL units!! .. ALL units in the HDS family from the HDS5 to the HDS 12's are fully compatible with each other...AND...Lowrance does NOT block you from using the mapping you choose to best meet your needs.

It's called a User Data Sharing Cable. $19.99 @ Garmin Marine. Compatible with all new echoMap series.

I assume you'll have to buy 2 of these and connect the ends together?

I was thinking that too afterwards, what's the point?

But then I remember why. Garmin has a new ultra HD mapping of the local lake I go to. I remember seeing their sonar boat a couple of years ago too out on the water and was wondering about it.

Or will garmins chip work in the hummingbirds and lowrance....

I really don't want to spend a shitton of money on the xvs. If I win the powerball, sure, lol.

New echoMap price point units are outstanding so let's wait to see what all is being offered. Garmin is making a big push in Freshwater market and it may not be for everyone. However for me I made the switch away from Navionics and Lowrance with no regrets. I stated before I never had any real issues with Lowrance. I just like what Garmin was offering better especially their LakeVu Ultra HD MaxDef mapping. Quite happy so far.

So am I correct about not being able to record, if you're using the ultra hd card?

Legit question if there is only one card slot. I'm not sure. Don't assume until you talk with Garmin or get confirmation from them.
